So now that we have proven that most of you (not all since I have noticed a few that seem genuinly nice) have your pretty little panties on a little too tight. Does anybody know a site or forum that I can go to talk with nice people about everything. I recently changed churches and the one I attend has programs for kids, teens, and a quilting circle. There is nothing for those in between. I have search everywhere that I have found online and I just can find anything that is keeping my attention.
I would try a Protestant forum. There are hundreds of Protestant churches to choose from so I’m sure you can find one that fits with what you believe. Just list all of the beliefs you want your church to have and ask the Protestant members if any of their churches are a match. For instance, list that you are searching for a church that allows homosexual unions and teaches that Mary was not a virgin and then try the different suggestions on like shoes until you find the one that fits you. Scarlett -

I am so taken aback by your “beliefs.” Frankly I am not surprised that you have trouble communicating with other Catholics. But you have a right to think what you want. It is called Free Will. If you are trying to find somewhere to fit in go to www.beliefnet.com you can take a religious quiz and based on your answers it will match you up with a religion that has the same core beliefs as yourself. Maybe you will find a group of individuals with more tolerance to your non-Catholic views.

Good suggestion, crobynb! Here’s the direct link to the “Belief-O-Matic” on the site that you suggested:

By the way, scarletmommy, if you can before you leave us please let us know which religion the computer matched with you! I couldn’t be more curious.

I’ve kept myself from posting, but I just have to say, you came onto a pretty conservative Catholic message board and referred to our Blessed Mother as a prostitute. (I could barely type that, ugh.) A lot of catholics think of Mary as their spiritual mother. How would you feel if someone called your mother a whore? What kind of a reaction did you expect to get?
That said, I think a lot of people on here gave you quite civil answers, even after that.
Now I have a question. Do you want people to tell you the truth, or do you want people to tell you what you want to hear? I can tell you that I am concerned for you, as I’m sure many on here are. I encourage you to search for the truth and not just for nice people that won’t hurt your feelings. I had to go through a lot of tough love to learn what I have from the Catholic faith and it is the best thing that ever happened to me. Stick with it.

“For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths” (2 Tim 4: 3-4).
Scarlet, don’t be one of these about whom St. Paul warns! Stay with the Catholic faith into which you were baptized and raised, and find out the truth which the Church teaches and guards. A lot of us are praying for you. You have found a place where you will be accepted, but some of your ideas cannot be. You are more important the myths you have been fed.

:yup: Yep, you got it!

Sometimes medicine tastes nasty, but we need it to get well.

Sometimes truth hurts. I’ve never known a grief in my life like the one that smacked me around when I realized that I had offended my Creator and Savior! I was so sophisticated, so smart, so proud. So much smarter than all these Christians who needed God for a crutch. Oh, the groans and wails to find out that these Christians had it right, after all! You really do have to have the faith of a little child - guileless and unworldly.

Oh, Dear Lord, it took me so long to find that you are not merely a crutch - you are water and air and light and life, itself! I’ve denied You over and over and now I see that I was never, ever safe without You! I think I’ve committed every kind of blasphemy ever invented and now I see I was always wrong! How much it must have hurt you, that I was indifferent to You or mocking You! How could I have ever done such a thing?

Dear Miss scarletmommy - do you really want such a time of reckoning as I have had? Please don’t do this to yourself! Get yourself to an RCIA program and go back to learn out about these precious gifts spread before you in this church. They’re yours! All you have to do is be a tiny bit willing to accept them.

If you’re finding things unfriendly in your parish, start a young women’s group or Bible study. Get a group together to visit the parishioners who are disabled or live in nursing homes. There is nothing like help someone else to take us out of our selves and fill our hearts.

Don’t deny yourself these treasures. Don’t keep yourself out of the friendship of our Savior.

God bless you,
Elizabeth

I tried it and my top three results were…

Orthodox Judaism 100%
Roman Catholic 98%
Islam 98%

Now I’m really confused! I don’t thinks Judaism is right for me because of the whole Son of God belief. And obviously people here don’t want me to be Catholic. And I don’t know a whole lot about Islam, but from what I know it is not for me. I think next on the list was Orthodox Quacker.

Quaker, I think is probably what it was. And run as far as you can from Islam, my friend…
I don’t think anyone here wants you to not be a Catholic. Quite the contrary…

No one has said that they don’t want you to be Catholic. They’ve merely said that Catholics believe that the Church is the infallible Church of Christ, you think it is wrong, and if you can’t accept the teachings, find a heretical ‘church’ which agrees with you.

I’ve read through this thread and I’m very concerned that you think our Blessed Mother is a common slut. If you remember, Mary Magdalene was going to be STONED for prostitution, and that was a generation down! Also, Mary told the Archangel Gabriel that she had not known man, and I VERY MUCH DOUBT that she would have lied! The Mother of God, full of grace, blessed forever, is not a lying, whore.

I suggest you throw yourself fully into finding out exactly what the Church teaches and why. I used to misunderstand a lot of stuff, I studied, and now accept everything the Church says.
I suggest you study the teachings of the church, and basic history.

Michael

However i do not think that Mary is a prostitute.

Hadn’t read that.

Just be careful people,

this person is clearly in a state where they are trying to improve there religious activity in life. There are very few youths in the church, lets not put them off. This person does not need to be condemmend, they need some guidance. Do not drive away existing catholics!!!

I found this work by Ronald F. Hock on line and found it interesting in light of the discussions we are having on Mary. This is, I think, Hock’s work on the Apocrypha Gospels. What do you all think?

According to Hock, a major development found in the Protevangelium of James is this: "Mary, the central character, is no longer a virgin in the ordinary sense of a young woman of marriageable age, but a virgin of extraordinary purity and unending duration." (emphasis added). Hock goes on to argue: “Indeed, Mary’s purity is so emphasized that it becomes thematic and thus answers the fundamental question which guides the narrative: why Mary, of all the virgins in Israel, was chosen to be the mother of the son of God. The answer: no one could have been any purer. Thus Anna transforms Mary’s bedroom into a sanctuary where she receives no impure food and is amused by the undefiled daughters of the Hebrews (6:5). When she turns three years of age, these young women escort her to the temple in Jerusalem where she spends the next nine years in absolute purity and is even fed by the hand on an angel (7:4-8:2). When, at age twelve, she is made the ward of Joseph, she spends her time spinning thread for the temple with the other virgins from Israel (10:1-12:1). When she is later suspected of impurity, she passes a test and has her innocence proclaimed by the high priest (15:1-16:7). Finally, when she gives birth to Jesus, two midwives certify that she remains a virgin (19:18-20:11). In short, it is through her purity that Mary fulfills the blessing which the priests made when she was only one year old: that she might be blessed with a blessing that could not be surpassed (6:9).”

oh - and on the Believe-O-Meter I am 100% Roman Catholic, 100% Eastern Orthodox (I imagine the Byzantine Rite?) and the next one - way down, around 75% was Seventh Day Adventist…hmmmmm

Try and view it like this:

Roman Catholics and THE REST. If your religion is not Catholicism you will struggle to find peace and ultimately will have a VERY hard time being saved. You being on this forum is a very good indication God is calling you home. Read the catechism of the catholic church, dismiss these beliefs that you hold which are wrong, I’m sorry to say you have been influenced by some crazy people.

The Catholic Church is THE church Jesus founded. If Jesus was who he said he was then his Church should be the only religion to follow. Catholicism is that religion, we are linked directly back to the apostles who were Jesus’s chosen ones. Therefore IF Jesus was who he said he was you must only believe in catholicism, anything else is heresy.

There is a brilliant book called “Jesus amongst other Gods” (categorecially prooves Jesus as God and the true messiah while at the same time dismissing lots of other religions) which is BRILLIANT, try and get it to read it. If after you read it you realize that Jesus is Lord then become a catholic and be saved, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease choose this option, it will make me so happy.

God Help You in this time of confusion.

Andre.

Every now and then, I’ll get goofy ideas in my head. They’ll just pop in there. For example, maybe Jesus was just a really holy person and not God the Son, or maybe He was just a very clever magician. I IMMEDIATELY SAY A PRAYER TO THE BLESSED MOTHER OR ST. MICHAEL FOR THOSE EVIL THOUGHTS TO BE TAKEN FROM ME, and I’m immediately returned to peace.

Just a suggestion that you might want to try.

Also, when you pray, are you being specific? Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit, do some fasting or other hard penance (giving up dessert won’t cut it) and spend hours in front of the Blessed Sacrament. I GUARANTEE you will find your answers there if you go with a sincere heart. It may take a month or so, but persevere. Amen.

*There is no happier person than a Catholic that believes *everything ** his/her Church presents as truth.

NO ONE knows who the woman was. She was not named in Scripture.

:amen: Our poster is obviously very young and is being misled, by someone who is also mislead. So, we need to pray for them.
Gee, the more I see on here somedays, the more I think, ok, Lord, I can see that I need to pray more…, make sacrifices, penance, indulgences, visits to Adoration, ask the intercession of the Saints, go to Mass more often, pray the Rosary daily, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, … etc…
–Plus the Bible says the woman was a sinful woman doesn’t it?
Now, why would Jesus forgive the sinful woman if she wasn’t being sinful? If that was “accepted” then, why would they have been dragging her through the street demanding she be stoned?? A lot of good people have given you very good responses, study your faith, not books that trash it.
Our dear Blessed Virgin Mary is called the Blessed Virgin because she is a Perpetual Virgin—still!! Always will be. I know, in this day and age that probably even sounds unbelievable to some. It happens to be the truth though.

Scarlettmommy, You mentioned that your Mother is the only one who you have talked to about your beliefs. I am very curious, being a mother of a 24 year old young woman(I noticed that your bio lists you as 25), what her reaction was/is to those beliefs? It is a parents duty to see that their child/children are taught the truth of the Catholic Faith. While I may not be able to answer all her questions, I would direct my daughter to where WE could find the right answers (The Catechism, EWTN, etc.). You say that you were RAISED Catholic, but just what does that mean? Did you recieve Confirmation? Did you have any Catholic education? Just curious because if my Daughter came to me with what you have posted, my first reaction would be:bigyikes: :nope: , after that , I would get busy helping her know the truth. You will be in my prayers.
