Is there anywhere I can go?

scarletmommy,

In reading through these posts I can’t help but wonder where you are receiving your information. I am also of the opinion that you are being misinformed. I recommend that you get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC.) This is, by definition, what the Catholic Church teaches as truth. A good reference to the CCC is the Bible (I’m not being sarcastic - the CCC will provide specific references to the Bible to back up the CCC.)

Someone else already posted this, but I think those on this board have been fairly generous in their responses considering the fact that you suggested that the Blessed Virgin Mary was a whore. (I don’t like typing that either…) I’m sorry that anyone has come across less than civil, but your implications have understandably ruffled just a few feathers. This is most likely the reason why you receive an emotional response from most Catholics.

I pray that you find peace in the truth of the Church.

:blessyou:

And obviously people here don’t want me to be Catholic.
Hmmm… it’s really not up to us, but it is up to you. You reject Catholic dogma about Mary. We can teach you, but the student has a responsibility in the learning process.

We can tell you why we think Catholic dogma is true. But it is up to you to accept it or reject it.

It is not just our “opinion” but the Catholic Canon Law states:
Can. 750 §1. A person must believe with divine and Catholic faith all those things contained in the word of God, written or handed on, that is, in the one deposit of faith entrusted to the Church, and at the same time proposed as divinely revealed either by the solemn magisterium of the Church or by its ordinary and universal magisterium which is manifested by the common adherence of the Christian faithful under the leadership of the sacred magisterium; therefore all are bound to avoid any doctrines whatsoever contrary to them…

Can. 751 Heresy is the obstinate denial or obstinate doubt after the reception of baptism of some truth which is to be believed by divine and Catholic faith; apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.

Can. 1364 §1 … an apostate from the faith, a heretic, or a schismatic incurs a latae sententiae (automatic) excommunication
You seem unwilling to follow the canon laws of the Church. It is not our opinion, but your choice which separates you from Catholic unity.

You are in our prayers.

Scarlettmommy, You mentioned that your Mother is the only one who you have talked to about your beliefs. I am very curious, being a mother of a 24 year old young woman(I noticed that your bio lists you as 25), what her reaction was/is to those beliefs? It is a parents duty to see that their child/children are taught the truth of the Catholic Faith. While I may not be able to answer all her questions, I would direct my daughter to where WE could find the right answers (The Catechism, EWTN, etc.). You say that you were RAISED Catholic, but just what does that mean? Did you recieve Confirmation? Did you have any Catholic education? Just curious because if my Daughter came to me with what you have posted, my first reaction would be:bigyikes: :nope: , after that , I would get busy helping her know the truth. You will be in my prayers.
My Mom really has never said anything about my beliefs. She didn’t raise me, it was my Father that raised me Catholic. My Mom just joined the Church about 5 yrs ago. I went to Catholic school from preschool thru 6th grade. Then the tuition increased for the 3rd year in a row and I started at a public school for grade 7. No I haven’t recieved Confirmation because I didn’t want to when I was younger. I have talked to the Priest at my new church and they are supposed to send me some information about the classes, but from what he thought I will not be able to make it this year because the class times are times that I am either at work or school. I’ve always questioned what the Church told me. I’ve had some interesting convos with my old priest and have even had him stop in mid thought because he couldn’t answer me. As far as what my parents would say is pretty easy since I’m an adult and capable of making up my own mind they really don’t have anything to say.

Actually I have read the Bible front to back several times. I find it very interesting. I know most of what the church teaches. Who said I don’t have peace in the Church. For some reason people are assuming I am unhappy. Things are quite the contrary. I am very happy with my life and Religion.
Blessed Virgin Mary was a whore
So far I’m one of the only ones who hasn’t said that on this thread. 😉

Right, you said she was a heterae which, by your defination, makes her a classy whore. I know you said that you have done a lot of research that has led you to believe this about Mary and also to believe that Mary Magdalene had some type of physical relationship with Jesus. Do you mind sharing some of your resources? I’ve read the Bible and see no hint of either of these things there. TIA.

This is one of the main problems I have with the Catholics I have met. I never came here for you to teach me anything. I find it rude for people to push thier views on others. I have never tried to convience anyone I have ever met to agree with me. My beliefs are just that MINE.

I know this post had more to it than this statement. I don’t want to seem like I am picking on you I just noticed similar comments on other threads and it annoys the heck out of me.

To start off I’m a born and raisied Catholic. My problem is I don’t get along with very many Catholics. At least 4 out of 5 that I meet just rub me the wrong way. At times I am almost embarassed to think that I share a Religion (one that means the world to me) with them. I’m more “realistic” in my beliefs and I don’t think people like that. Does anyone know a nice site (possibly geared to a younger audience) that I would feel comfortable with?
Since you have problems getting along with at least 4 out of 5 Catholics and it annoys you when Catholics on a religious forum try to teach you something, the best advice I can give you would be don’t post on Catholic forums. You said in your first post that you are embarrassed to share a religion with Catholics and that you are more realistic in your beliefs. As you are only 25, you have many years ahead of you for spiritual growth and maturity. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

But, you didn’t say that. You said that you are a Catholic and that your faith means the world to you. Clearly one of those statements is wrong, in light of the other things that you’ve said.

Don’t claim to be a Catholic in one breath and call the Blessed Mother a whore in the next, however classy a whore you think she may have been.

You came here clearly in need of something and then threw a hissy when validation of a wacky theology wasn’t immediately forthcoming?

My goodness - people here have tried to help you in a real way, and that doesn’t include re-inforcing your delusions. You should be glad of that!

A heterae is not a whore. That is the misconception. Yes most did have sex, but that was a very small portion of thier role in society. My actual words were…
Second I believe Mary is the mother of God and that she was without sin. I also feel that there is a very likely chance that she was a heterae and possibly not a physical virgin.
I honestly can say that I don’t know if she was a physical virgin or not. I was not alive back in the day so I really can’t say. People just tend to not read and pick out a few words in a post to form an opinion. Also I never said that Mary Magdalen and Jesus had a physical relationship.
I believe there was more to the story with Mary Magdalen than is being taught. I feel in my heart that there is a love between her and Jesus that no man will ever know.
And that I don’t believe what I know of the da Vinci code. I can’t say I don’t believe any of it because I haven’t read the book. I would really like to but right now I just don’t have the time.

As you were not intending to be taught that the teachings of the Church contradict several of your own opinions, you have posted in the wrong forum. Your original post would have been more accurately placed in the section “The Watercooler”. This forum is “Apologetics”. Recall the definition:

**Apologetics - (Gr. “defenders”). The individuals and saints who defended the faith and the Church by their ability to present, explain, and justify their faith. 2) The theological science and art of presenting, explaining and justifying the reasonableness of the Christian faith.

Sorry, but Catholics are called to evangelize always. Even if you didn’t come here for that, Christ asked us to. In fact, he commanded it. 🙂

Why is one of those statements wrong? I never ask you to agreee with me. I just stated how i feel. I never threw a ‘hissy fit’. I was asked my belief and responded. I’ve actually enjoyed some of the people on here and have gotten to know a few through PMs. A few have been annoying and I think that is just because I get asked the same question by several people. Unless I am specifically responding to a post I try to read through them all so I don’t repeat what someone else has already said.

Oh and by the way the something that I came here for was to find a web site or message board. I haven’t found any good ones for day to day life. The only one liked I noticed hasn’t been posted on since 2003. And another one I joined was wierd. I thought they were gonna chop off my head because I said I worked outside of the home and had no desire to homeschool.

The title of your thread is “Is there anywhere I can go?” The answer lies in what you are looking for. In your OP you suggested that you were looking for somewhere you could get along with other Catholics and feel comfortable. I would say to you that with your beliefs I’m not sure there is anywhere you can go for this. Since your beliefs are not Catholic - no matter how much you try to claim they are - I would venture to say that you won’t find such a place. Not a place where Catholics who believe in Catholicism are at anyway.

I think it’s obvious you won’t find it here.

:blessyou:

The reason I posted here was because I thought that someone might know a good site to go to. I glanced through the other boards and didn’t see a place for a question like that. I figured someone here may have ventured to other sites enough to say hey yeah there is a nice site that has a Christian background, but also likes to have a regular day to day chats.

Is correcting someone’s errors “pushing beliefs”? Have you ever been to school? When you missed a question on a test and the teacher marked it wrong, and then told you the correct answer, was she “pushing her beliefs” on you? Sure, you have a right to believe Mary was a heterae just like you have a right to believe George Washington was a cross-dressing woman. Why would you not want to know what the truth is? Who wants to remain in error just because that error is “MINE?”

By the way, the beliefs being pushed on you here are not just personal opinions. Truth is not a matter of personal belief. The people who have been pushing their beliefs on you have conformed their beliefs to the Truth, not the other way around. You would do well to do likewise.

You’ll most likely say you don’t need me to pray for you to see the truth in the Catholic faith - but I’m going to anyway. To be honest, I don’t want you to find a site like the one you’re looking for. I think you should stay here and find the truth. As a Catholic I want that for you - even though you say you’re happy with what you believe.

Don’t leave - stay on this forum and reap the benefits of some great spiritual guidance!

Try posting in the Watercooler. I’m sure someone there will have advice on chatrooms.

If your views on the Blessed Mother were Catholic, you could say that you know that she was a physical virgin. I don’t know if you missed that in one of your many trips through the Bible, but its in there. I’m pretty sure.

I’m not willing to say you are not Catholic (how big of me, I know!) but you are seriously mistaken in some of your views. Wouldn’t it be much more interesting to explore your opinions, how you formed them, and how much (or little) they conform to the Catholic faith? You’re here, and you keep coming back, so you’re getting something out of this. Why not post something substantial to a thread, and defend your private opinions to us annoying people who think we have the truth. I’ve learned a lot by doing this.

But why do you believe these things? I know intention can be hard to interpret across a computer screen, but I am gunienely (sp??) interested to learn what led you to believe that Mary Magdalene and Jesus had a deeper relationship or that Mary was a heterae.

**We *****DO ***want you to be Catholic, and you hold beliefs that are contrary to Catholicism.

Forgive those who lack charity when they point that out to you. We are told in the Bible that we should speak the truth in love. Charity and compassion are difficult to convey over the internet, and sometimes people merely speak the truth, forgeting the part about love.

God knows your heart; people on the internet don’t. I don’t really have any suggestion about where you should go, other than the confessional. (That’s not a slam–I go to confession frequently and find many graces there.) Let the priest know in confession your doubts about what the Church teaches.

The sacrament of confession may provide graces to help you understand the beautiful love that Jesus had for Mary Magdalene, He also has for you. I think the reason why prostitutes hung out by Jesus was He looked at them differently than most men did. He knew their hearts and the purpose that God created them. Women are not meant to be sex toys for men; it degrades the woman and makes men slaves to their lust. Sex is not wrong–it is one of God’s greatest gifts. Misusing sex is like turning a beautiful silk wedding gown into a rag to scrub the toilet. Jesus knew why He created sex–to relect the love of God that Christ puts into His bride, the Church. I pray that you will know that love.
