A relative of mine and his wife are getting a divorce.
She left his house and took their 15 years old twin daughters with her.
She drinks and smokes a lot. In the four months this girls have been living with her they started drinking and smoking too, and telling lies after lies. They also have acquired the habit of sleeping in their friends homes (or at least that is where they say they spend the night).
They failed at school. They used to be good girls, but now they are totally out of control.
Their father is thinking the only hope would be to place them in some kind of clinic or boarding school where they me get rehab. But he is afraid they may only get worse in such an enviroment. Meet some nasty kids that teach them to do worse things.
I told him I would ask if there is some kind of Catholic facility where their girls may recover and get a new perspective of their lives. Unfortunately neither he nor their mom are believers and they never taught them any values at all, but he is willing to try.
I hope it is not too late. And I wish they would know Jesus and let him into their hearts.

Any suggestion, please?

Thanks in advance,

Alma

You said they need rehab, do they have some kind of addiction? Or is your reference to a behavior make over?

The best Catholic source is in the HOME. The Church supports us in raising our families, but it is up to US to do the bull of the work.

It is never too late. The father should turn his full attention to his daughters with tough love and close supervision. Lead them by example and not give up on turning them around…

She drinks and smokes a lot. In the four months this girls have been living with her they started drinking and smoking too, and telling lies after lies. They also have acquired the habit of sleeping in their friends homes (or at least that is where they say they spend the night). This is basically your relative’s business. You can do nothing but pray. Your relative, however, can present the evidence in court through his attorney. If he does not have one, he needs to devote every penny he has to getting one, a good one. People give attorneys a rough way to go, but I would not enter a courtroom without one- and the vast majority of them are ethical, intelligent people.

Their father is thinking the only hope would be to place them in some kind of clinic or boarding school where they me get rehab. But he is afraid they may only get worse in such an enviroment. Maybe, maybe not. What he needs to do is get off his rearend and get a court order. If he is whining he can’t, or he can’t afford an attorney, then he needs to seriously consider how he can send them to boarding school. I told him I would ask if there is some kind of Catholic facility where their girls may recover and get a new perspective of their lives. Unfortunately neither he nor their mom are believers and they never taught them any values at all, but he is willing to try. They really need their father to step up and step in, taking custody. To think that with his estranged wife out of the house and without any faith they can just ship their girls to a Catholic school and they will be magically fixed is unrealistc and a setup for failure. This is not the 1940s, and Bing Crosby as Father O’Malley does not live in every parish, if he ever did. I hope it is not too late. And I wish they would know Jesus and let him into their hearts. Me, too.

Any suggestion, please? 1.) Dad goes to emergency family court with an attorney and gets temporary custody. 2.) Dad learns to parent with a psychologist the attorney recommends. 3.) The attorney goes to court and gets Dad permanent custody, based on the vast improvement in the girls’ lives, the lack of improvement in Mom’s, and the best interest of the girls.

Thanks in advance,

Alma

He can be the best Catholic dad in the world, fitght for custody, and bring his daughters to a personal relationship with Christ and His Church.
