Pope Speaking Heresy? Sacred Scripture
“I try to understand the person I am interviewing, and after that I write his answers with my own words,” Scalfari explained. He conceded that it is therefore possible that “some of the Pope’s words I reported, were not shared by Pope Francis.” Source:

Pope Francis’ alleged remarks about Hell. Fr. Z says, “Let not your heart be troubled.” Spirituality
A link to the original article is here: Il Papa: “È un onore essere chiamato rivoluzionario” - la Repubblica A subscription to the newspaper is required to read the article. The closest reported statement I have come across would be the following quote from the article translated into English. I can’t confirm this is what the article originally said, though. This is completely false. The person who reported this is a 93 year old atheist “reporter” who takes no notes during his “interviews,” and reports what he believes the Pope intended.

In short, he’s a hack who writes sensationalist nonsense for views; i.e., clickbait.

Catechism
1035 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, "eternal fire."615 The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.

Who benefits the most from the idea that there is no hell? God or the devil?

And, “Annihilationism” is a formal HERESY of the Church.

Wouldn’t the devil offer such an idea to us for our intellects to accept…we “just take a nap” and go away. Heresy.

In reason is your answer.

God gave us our reason in order to help us come to Him.
