Someone mentioned God ‘chuckling’ in a thread about a young child accidentally dropping the Eucharist. The other night while praying to Our Lady I got my words mixed up and came out with a 'funny". Not at all put out, I imagined Our Lady laughing too.
I know St Thomas Aquinas opines that angels don 't laugh because in their life experience there is nothing incongruous, as there is in ours, such as pompous men skidding on banana skins.
Well, is there laughter in heaven? This week we have been saying the Regina Coeli rather than the Angelus, asking Our Lady to rejoice because her Son has risen as He said He would. Can she rejoice without a happy laugh?:clapping:

yes :3 God is the God of joy, where do you think we got our sense of humor from in the first place? all things come from God, and God takes such joy in us,

when Saint Bernadette asked the Blessed Mother to write her name down for her, she laughed =) laughter is such a beautiful thing, it is a gift and a great joy, and remember, God “changes not”, if He has a sense of humor now, He will have it forever,

when i had just gotten my dog, and we were still trying to teach her to “go” outside, at that time she was not aloud upstairs, because she especially liked “going” up there to do her thing(in the bathroom especially d: ) well, one time i saw her running up the stairs, and suspecting what she was doing, i yelled up to her, but messed up my words, and shouted “GOD, GET DOWN HERE”…i quickly smacked my forehead and corrected myself…well, afterwords i just imagined how heaven took that, and just felt a laughter inside myself, i think they probably found it rather humorous :>

How can anybody presume to know what exists, or doesn’t exist, in heaven besides the beatific vision of the trinitarian God?

Trying to explain heaven to a human is like trying to explain flight to a mosquito larva.

We’ll know when we get there if we make it, and we know we’ll be thoroughly happy.

Do we really need to know more to give us hope?

Oh I hope so! And a movie with popcorn that explains everything I’ve ever wondered about or why things happened the way they did. I fully expect to have lots an lots of belly laughs when I get to heaven.

I don’t know. So I’m trying to stock up in this life. 🙂

And if there isn’t, I suppose we won’t miss it in Heaven.

I have to believe ‘yes’. Why else would God give us the means to laugh here on earth??

And if not, well then, God has certainly been tickling me all my life…he must truly love to hear and see me laugh!! 👍

Every week our Church bulletin publishes a few light hearted jokes, and I had a bit of a smirk and a hard time controlling a giggle when we said the Lord’s prayer, as one of the funnies:

A child was over heard saying the Lord’s prayer,

“And forgive us our trash baskets, as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets”.

Hey there, I was the one that made that post about God “chuckling” at a little child accidentally dropping the Eucharist. What I meant is that He is laughing out of a “How adorable and innocent” sense, like a father watching his son play his first tee-ball game, or how my mother was laughing really hard as she watched this home video of a much younger me, singing with the kids at my day-care the song “Jingle Bells”, and it was just utter chaos.

The innocence of a child doubtlessly brings God a smile.

While St. Thomas Aquinas spoke of angels not laughing, did he say we can’t when we get to Heaven?

Good-natured laughter is also shown to help people in heal from diseases. It’s one of the blessings of life. I am sure there is laughter in Heaven, and God loves to laugh.

For example, just a little while ago, I was trying to make a little pre-boxed panini sandwich for my dinner (Why did you close earlier than you say you do, Sbarro’s? 😦 ) and I was just completely clumsy the entire time. I basically had ripped the box (which I am supposed to cook the sandwich on) to shreds just trying to open it correctly. I’m pretty sure God got a kick out of that, even I couldn’t help but smile.

Interesting question, but it would be rather irrelevant because I don’t think we will be worried about that though 😛 On the other hand if we see heaven consisting of all the joys then yes it would be contained within heaven

Is there laughter at a wedding? Read how Jesus relates the Kingdom of God to a wedding feast.

Emeraldwings, I think this is our first agreement!

There is a great picture of Jesus with His head thrown back in laughter. I love, love, love that picture.

You are not alone!! This is one of my most treasured prints…I imagine that Christ laughs with us rather frequently…and what a wonderful thing this is!!

Of course nobody on THIS side of eternity knows the answer to this question. Mark Twain, however, had an interesting theory. He posited that there is no humor or laughter in Heaven because people in Heaven have no need of them.

I can’t imagine there not being laughter in heaven. You know, my ex-fiance said something when we were still dating that struck me, and I think she’s right: “If you think of an unborn baby, that child has no way of imagining what life on the outside world is like. I think Heaven will be like that. We have no way of knowing and no comparison.” (paraphrase)

We are able to laugh in this valley of tears, in exile; how could there be no laughter in our home, in the presence of Our Loving God?

Just speaking for myself, humor is my “weapon of choice.” Often, the uglier things get, the more I joke about them. “Gallows humor” the Irish call it. It’s how I fight against the world. Again, just for myself, I hope that I will not need that kind of defense in Heaven. I just want peace.

Nah, probably not.
Our life is supposed to one of sacrifice and denial. Jesus never said anything about having fun. A Catholic who indulges in laughter is not concentrating enough on his/her call to holiness.
My guess is that it will be the same in heaven. An eternity of staring at the beatific vision, or something like that.
😉

Indeed there is! Could you imagine being in the presence of Jesus Christ true God and True Man, and not be happy and laugh?

“God created human beings in his own image.” Genesis 1:27. “What’s an image?” I had this one before too–the simple answer…it’s what you see when you look in a mirror. The you in the mirror is your image

Since God created us with the ability to laugh, and we are like him, he must have that ability to laugh as well.

“The LORD shall laugh at him(The wicked): for he seeth that his day is coming.” Psalm 37:13
