My husband just died. Will we be together in heaven? We were true soul mates. I hope that we weren’t together for such a short time and won’t be together again.
Our sympathy and prayers are with you, your husband, and your family during this difficult time, and we ask the Catholic Answers Forums participants to remember you and your husband in their own prayers.
Marriage is an institution for this life only because it is meant for the sanctification of the spouses and the rearing of children for heaven. However, husbands and wives may certainly meet in heaven, just as we may meet any deceased family member in the next life. Indeed St. Therese of Lisieux’s parents, the Venerables Louis and Zelie Martin, are currently under consideration for canonization and it has been asked that their intercession be sought jointly in order to emphasize the power of the sacrament of matrimony that strengthened and sanctified them in this life.
