Is there really a rule

well we have had a history dating back to when she was head of faith formation … but i digress

there was a liturgy involved… it was the central funtion of the Legion of Mary…the once a year Acies Mass

our parish is one where everyone has a specific role… and our pastor delegates anything to the specific person who is in charge of that particular “thing”

what’s done is done and we chose to be “obedient” to her wishes… but that is why i wanted to find out if there was documentation backing up her decision … to see if i would pursue it with the pastor anyway…

if nothing else i want to get an answer to why it is allowable that we have 2 images of our Lady in the main church , and we were not allowed to do the same thing in the sacrament chapel

Now your next step would be to contact the Judical Vicar of our Diocese and request an interpretation of GIRM 318 as it applies to your situation.

The Judical Vicar is the canon lawyer designated by the bishop to make rule determinations on his behalf.

That decision becomes authoritative for the diocese and would render any personal interpretation by the DoL moot.

so by doing this, it would in no way overstep the bounds of the chain of command thing that i realize is so important

Nope.

No overstepping chains. All you are doing is asking for a ruling on a particular rule and how it pertains to your situation.

That is precisely what the Judical Vicar is for.

The Judicial Vicar’s opinion would not REQUIRE the pastor to set up additional images of the Blessed Virgin Mary; it would simply set the precedent that it is ALLOWED.

The pastor can still choose to defer to his liturgy staff person’s opinion if he so chooses - because ultimately, it is the pastor’s decision on what to allow and not allow in his parish church.
 
Iconoclasm, literally “image breaking”, has been twice declared a heresy by the Church in the 8th and 9th centuries.

but i understand your point… i have been told by others that they too have multiple images of our Lady

if i may ask, of the 18 that you have , are there any that are repeated/duplicated ?

They’re all different. I know that they all have names, but I don’t know many of the names, since they’re in Italian.

It’s a beautiful sanctuary, with many images of saints and angels, as well as stained-glass windows depicting the life of St. Anthony of Padua. My personal favorite window is of St. Cecelia playing the organ. I also love the statue of St. Lucy–if you go up into the balcony (choir loft), you can see that she is carrying her eyeballs on a platter!
