Hi there,

This is more of a what do you do kind of thing. Before I get into this I just wanted to clarify 2 things. First, confronting this person and trying to talk to him is completely out of the question and second, going to management is out of the question as well. Why? I’m about to get into that, and I hope there’s enough space, if not, then just bare with me and I’ll make another post.

I work as a cleaner and event person in a family fitness facility, for almost 9 years. My Father is the head of my department, which means he is my boss. There’s good days and bad days.

There is a guy that works in the weight room. He’s in his mid 40’s. He’s worked there for like more than 15 years. I’ve known him since I was like 9 yrs old. We always had a very good friendship, or so I thought. We’ll call him “Frank”. Frank’s wife who we’ll call “Tina” frequents the gym a lot.

Frank hates my Dad. He has hated my Dad for years. He thinks my Dad is “racist”.
several years ago there was an incident in one of the classrooms where some glass was broken. Frank’s class was the last class in there, but nothing was mentioned to my Dad. My Dad mentioned to a female staff member “If he did it or one of the people in his class did it, why wouldn’t he just come tell me? Accidents happen, and it doesn’t look good when people don’t tell the truth”. I felt that he made a valid point. However this female went to “Frank” and told him that my Dad was accusing him of breaking the glass. Frank never went to my Dad. Instead he went to the security director and flipped out, banging on things saying that he was going to beat the living lights out of my Dad. My Dad made 1 attempt to talk to him to try and sort things out but Frank pretty much turned his nose up at him.

Almost 5 years ago, Frank and Tina got married. They decided to have their wedding reception in the building where we work. Tina had a lot of questions about sound equipment, etc. She called the buliding but the man she needed to talk to was on vacation so they fowarded her to my Dad instead. She was telling him of another conversation she had with the lady who did bookings but my Dad couldn’t clarify it because the lady that did the bookings had already left for the day, but he answered what questions he could about the sound equipment and if there wasn’t something he was unsure of he was honest with her and told her that he would get the guy to contact her about it when he came back from vacation. Then she had mentioned about a conversation that she had with her husband Frank. My Dad was honest with her and told her that he and Frank don’t talk very often, so he wouldn’t know. But I can’t honestly remember what the convo was that she was supposed to have had with Frank.

A couple of days later Frank went to the security director and did the exact same thing he did the last time. Then shortly after that my Dad was called my the general manager of the building into his office. Frank’s wife Tina had written a six page essay about how extremely ignorant, overbearing, cocky, and rude my Dad was to her over the phone. The general manager questioned my Dad because he thought it was some kind of joke because he knows that my Dad isn’t like that. There were also 2 other people in the office with my Dad when he took the call that can verify that he wasn’t like that but Frank’s wife and Frank still to this day claim that he was rude.

When Frank and I were still talking, he felt that my Dad had absolutely no business telling his wife that they don’t talk. That he didn’t need to broadcast that. Alright, maybe he shouldn’t have, however my Dad is a very honest person and I know that he was just trying to be honest with her.

I felt that this ongoing battle was ridiculous and some of the comments that she was making about my Dad hurt, but I let it go.

Frank would say really gross and inappropriate things to me at times, like for example his boss; he told me one night that if he could **** her he totally would.

There was a young girl who worked in another area of the buliding, she’s only like 21, he told her as well as me and others that if she would be with him and love him, and satisfy him that he would totally leave his wife. I thought this was absolutely discusting because he’s got a daughter the same age!

Frank is black. I don’t think I mentioned that. He had made a couple of comments about me not ever being able to be with a black man in the bedroom because I wouldn’t be able to handle his animalistic tendencies and that my Father would kill him.

There was a young girl that worked in my department a few years ago who’d be about 24 now and he still to this day makes comments about her bumb and tried to grab it one time but she didn’t do anything about it.

Now on to Frank’s wife Tina. She used to change in the locker room that I clean but doesn’t anymore because she told Frank along with customers and other staff that I apparently would stare at her private parts while she was changing. Then all of a sudden there was a rumor circulating like crazy, that I was a lesbian, which I am not nor have I ever looked at this woman!

Frank once told me before this that he liked me and considered me a good friend. I wondered if he did they why didn’t he defend me when his wife did this?

However as I said, I let all of this stuff go.

CONTINUATION OF FIRST POST:

Back in June of 2011 I noticed a big change in Frank. He became even more cocky and stuck up than he was before. Then all of a sudden he began talking to me less and less.

A short time later he started a side business. Then his behavior got even worse.

I also work in a different area of the buliding as well. I was working in this other area one morning when another worker asked me what was up with he and I because she noticed unusual tension when he was around me. I explained to her that he hasn’t been talking to me much anymore, and I feel that he has become to cocky and full of himself. I think he atcually may have been hiding around the corner and heard me even though I was quiet.

Then as weeks passed I would look through the window and see him hiding and listening to our conversations.
One evening I got really mad because his office carpet was a mess of food. This had been going on for quite a while and I was getting tired of cleaning it up every night. So I told my Dad about it and he told Frank’s boss.

Of course Frank bursts into the staff room screaming about how if anyone has a problem that they should be coming to him and only him. That my Dad makes way too much of a big deal out of things and that if he want to tell him that, go ahead he doesn’t care. We tried to explain that there’s people out there that have food allergies, but he didn’t care.

I spoke to my Dad the next morning and again I saw Frank hiding outside the door listening.

Today, he’ll walk by me ant not say a word. I’ve said hi to his wife a couple of times and she looks at me like she wants to stab me.

Something that really annoys me is that when I am talking to other staff members, Frank will come right up and stand directly in front of the person I’m talking to, cutting me off like I don’t exsist.

My solution? I’ve been praying now for Frank for over 3 months. I realize that he has many insecurties about himself. He can’t even handle the slightest bit of criticism. If you criticize, then you must be racist.

I ask god to forgive Frank for his behavior because he obviously doesn’t realize how it affects people. I also tell God that I know that Frank probably has a lot of scars from such a traumatizing life, to make his presence known in his life, and wrap his arms around him.

However nothing seems to change. Am I wasting my time?

You are never wasting your time when you pray and when you are praying for someone else. You may never see the fruits of it but pray anyway. End all your prayers with “'Thy will be done” and leave it at that.

Hi,

I don’t even know them but, frankly, I’ve had enough of Frank and Tina lol! I have, however, on occasion met similar types of people. They appear to have no qualms with deceit, lies, violent confrontation or baring false witness, provided they deem it advantageous to their selfish desires. Unfortunately, I have found such people only respond to forceful confrontation (this was in my misguided younger days however and before I realised such actions were against my faith). However, you may consider a strong, although non-violent, form of confronting the way you are being treated (you DO NOT deserve such treatment). I would consult your organisations’ policy on bullying etc. and, if necessary, make a formal complaint. If people cannot conduct themselves with the common decorum most organisations expect, then they should not be at that organisation. On a positive note, Gods’ love, mercy and forgiveness are infinite. Unfortunately such people seem to reject such gifts. I would keep praying for the conversion of such people, nothing is impossible to God, but for the moment they appear to be obsessed with the material aspects of this world and their own unruly desires. If they accept God, He will save them in his own good time. You and your father are in my prayers.

God bless

Prayer is always good and never wasted…

That said, what you describe “Frank” as doing is a textbook definition of Workplace Harassment and it is illegal (in most countries). If you can’t speak to management for some reason, fine… Speak to a lawyer.

And keep praying

I realized that I failed to mention that since he has stopped talking to me, if he has another guy in his office, when I walk by they start laughing their heads off. “Frank” is like 44 years old. Seriously, so immature.

It’s funny how he has no problem interupting me, however when people interupt him, he goes off like a mad man.

He also gives me very dirty looks when he walks by me.

So childish.

I’d love to file a complaint. Only issue is that I know he’d make my life a living hell if I did. I’m also afraid of his wife. I’ve seen her kick boxing and sparring. That woman can fight.

Praying is definitely the way to go. I’ve recently changed how I pray for the “other person” bringing challenges into my life.

In the Lord’s prayer we say, “Forgive us our trespasses AS we forgive those who trespass against us”. I certainly don’t want our Lord to forgive me the same way I have historically NOT forgiven others. So, after praying for them, I forgive them and ask God to help me to be sincere. By seeing myself as the sinner I am, I can be much more generous in forgiving others.

Saying a prayer for you, Frank and Tina.

Jazzy, when you say that you are too scared to report, even to someone outside the organization (and believe me, there are all sorts of ways that they can handle complaints anonymously) because Frank and/or Tina could ‘make life hell for you’ well, aren’t they doing that already? And hasn’t he behaved in an abusive and threatening manner to many others there besides yourself?

Do you really think that if, say, half a dozen of you (and guaranteed he’s probably made sexual and nasty comments to lots of others besides you) banded together all complaining about him that they would or could beat that many of you up? Harm that many of you? Disbelieve that many of you?

Think about it. It’s a classic technique of bullies to make their victims feel powerless and alone. You are neither, especially when you group together with other victims and seek advice from someone such as a lawyer who is experienced in situations like yours.

In your position I would feel that I owed it to my father and everyone else this man has bullied to see that something is done about it. Please don’t take that to mean that you necessarily have to think the same way, everyone’s situation and character are different. Just something to think about and prayerfully consider.

The problem with our organization is that nobody wants to talk. They are all afraid. Another issue is that when he has been spoken to in the past about things, he always has a way of finding out who it was that told and when he does, he tells customers that come in and makes the person the laughing stock of the building.

Just keep praying, these type of people will always be found out for the liars they are. He is obviously just a mindless bully (I don’t like bullies). Often, the only way to rid yourself is to stand up for yourself, if you feel unable to do this just keep faith in God; He really will sort things out for you. 👍

God bless

Honestly I’ve never thought of “Frank” as a bully. I just thought he was immature, and insecure. Bully makes sense.
