it’s by a group called great big sea, they mainly do newfoundland style fok music

anyways, in this particular song, ther’s a verse which includes cursing the cod with the fear of god, as words.

it’s about explorers coming to newfoundland and having to work hard at fishing. the rest of the song is fine but I’m confused as to that that bit means. usually the fear of god isn’t rfeally a bad thing but putting cursing something with it?

Just means they’ll put a big scare in the fish with their heroic fishing skills.

They best not try that on us amphiprioninae because we can defends ourselves. These fishermmen need to read more of Moby Dick to learn not to underestimate us water dwelling folk!
