Is This a Contradiction of Belief?

Maybe someone would be able to explain to me what I see as a contradiction within some fundamentalists and evangelical’s beliefs.

Many fundamentalists and evangelicals support the state of Israel. They are very strong in voicing this belief.

My question is why are they supportive on one hand and on the over say that Jews and other non-christians are going to hell? Of course many of them include Catholics in this equation.

It just doesn’t make much sense to me. As Catholics we don’t judge where anyone is going whether Heaven or Hell, as only our Blessed Lord makes that judgement. Also the Jews had a covenant with the Father and I don’t recall that it ended per se. The Lord began a new covenant which are the Christians, but the Jews were the Holy People of God for thousands of years.

Any answers would be appreciated.

I’ve heard different. From what I understand many those fundamentalist and evangelicals do believe that the Jews are good to go because of the very covenant you mentioned.

This is were I see the contradiction. That the Jews get a pass, that they don’t have to believe in Jesus when Jesus himself said he is the only way.

I think they favor Israel because they believe that when the Jewish temple is rebuilt, Jesus will return. They think the temple won’t be rebuilt under Muslim rule so they root for the Jews!

Many of them apply varying mathematical formulae regarding lenght of a generation and the existence of a state of Israel to portend the imminent second coming. Israel, therefore, has to exist in their line of thinking. Their support for Israel, in those cases, is really a preparation for their own “rapture” and not because of any special affinity for the Jewish people. Of course, they do believe the Israel will be converted in the end times, so that’s an extra benefit.

Christ was specifically sent to the Jews:

Matthew 15:24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

However, when Jesus was presented in the Temple on the eighth day, Simeon prophesied the future:

Luke 2:28-33 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.”

Thus, the Jews specifically have Him as their Messiah. We Gentiles have the grace of adoption into the Kingdom.
