Today while I was in church a man came up to me and asked me money ($10.00). I told the individual that I had no money to spare. What happened was that my mother gave me money to travel to lessons and out of all of that I actually had $2.00 to spare.

Not grave matter. It sounds like you spoke without knowing.

Please speak to a priest if you struggle with scruples. Posting these questions will not help you.

I did know but I did not say that because it I did not want to give.

Feeling awkward and making an excuse in a social situation is not grave matter. God is NOT a bean counter. It’s not one bean on the right for going to Mass and a bean on the left for holding on to your own money. Could you have phrased it better? Sure 🤷‍♀️, I guess. That’s not a sin.

@edward_george1 is correct. Checking on the internet with strangers of varying opinions about grave matter is likely only to feed into scrupulosity. Sitting with a priest, who has been trained and ordained by God to help you with spiritual matters, is what will give you a healthy spiritual relationship with Him. And that is what it all is about…the health of your spiritual relationship with God.

To add: this can be a very difficult sin to confess, actually. It’s embarrassing, shameful, and (I always feel) hard to talk about. I would still encourage you to confess it anyway…it is a. the only way to reconcile with Christ (by meeting with him face to face in the person of the priest) and b. you will feel much better afterwards!
