I got this letter asking for a donation from the “Priests of the Sacred Heart”. They have a website ast www. poshusa. org . I was wondering how I can find out if this is a legitimate organization? has anyone ever heard of them? I’ve never recieved anything from a Catholic organization out of the blue.

I have never heard of them but I looked at their website and did not see anything suspicious. It is common practice for various organizations to share mailing lists, so I wouldn’t be too surprised about the solicitation. If this is a new experience, beware! I get an average of 15 to 20 direct mail opportunities to donate per week; most of them I am certain are authentic Catholic institutions. Pray about it and pick you favorites and be generous with them. Don’t for get about Catholic Answers. It costs money to keep this site up; they do a great job; we both are benefitting as a result. 👍

Yes, they are legit. I contribute to them (The Walls Mississipi Provence) Also to their St. Josephs Indian School. Excellent Order of Priest. As to the mailing, as the poster above mentioned…if you donate to a Catholic Charity…they do share mailing lists. (although, as with anything, you can ask NOT to have your information shared.

I am on so many mailing list I get 3-5 mail solicitations every day for donations. I am sure many or most are worthy, but I long ago made it a practice to dump them in the garbage unopened. If they send little premiums like crosses, medals or prayer cards I save them in a box for CCD give-aways. I restrict my giving to tithing for parish, diocese, Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services and CFCA. We also keep a fund to respond to emergency requests we receive personally, but never resond to mail solicitations.
