Is this a mortal sin or not a sin?

Hi everyone, I am 16 years old, and over the past…probably 6 months I have REALLY started to pay more attention to my faith. One thing that I used to do was skip mass, but after finding out it was sinful, I have actually grown to enjoy going to mass, and uncommon for a 16 year old, I sometimes go by myself if my parents don’t go. But my question is this: is missing mass due to vacation a mortal sin? I understand you are obliged to attend even if you are out of town, but we will be on a cruise for 5 days and in Orlando for 3, but I am unfamiliar with the area. If I was alone I would go to mass there, but my parents won’t allow me to go by myself, and they don’t want to go, so am I committing a sin since I CAN legally drive myself but my parents won’t let me because we are on vacation?

Thanks!

There is a different answer for you because you are a minor.

Thanks to both of you, I was really worried, but that cleared it up, I appreciate the answers!

Alas, I am sorry for your dilemma. You are right to question your duty. As others have outlined before this response, you have a spiritual responsibility for obedience to your parents. However this responsibility cannot be taken blindly… or simply. You should do your best (after serious prayer) to engage your parents with the importance of your Catholic duty and attempt to lead them to see your truth- and also the errors of their ways. Of course should they continue to decline your attendance you must submit to them. However, you should plan to attend Mass the first chance you get once you return home. Finally, on Sunday, I would encourage you to minimally pray a spiritual communion and make time to read scripture.
Peace to you,
Praying…
Michael
