Is this a Mortal sin or not?

There’s one of those text-based games I was playing where you live a life essentially. For some reason, it can sometimes cause me to be aroused, i guess it’s because some of the themes. Knowing this, I decided to play a game because I thought I had my arousal more under control (dumb thing to think, obviously). That didn’t end up being the case, but I ignored the arousal until I went to another round when a thought came into my head that ‘maybe this isn’t right’ so I stopped. I definitely didn’t want to be aroused and tried praying afterwards to get rid of the arousal. But maybe playing the game in the first place was wrong? I don’t know. I don’t know if this matters, but if I had known it was a Mortal sin (if it is), or even if it was venial, I wouldn’t have done it. I’ve been freaking out for awhile because I’ve been receiving communion but I’m not sure what I would confess if I went to confession. If it is a Mortal sin, what would i confess?

1. You stated you already knew it was a problem for you - yet you decided to play a game
2. Why would you deliberately place yourself in a situation of near occasion of sin ?
3. Got burn’t - surprised well you shouldn’t be. Lesson learnt regarding that game.
4. Good that the second time when you went to start again, you realized you shouldn’t, that it is a problem for you and stopped.
5. Stopping before commencing to play a second time indicates there was no consent. No consent - no sin.
6. Possibly a sin the first time as you knew you shouldn’t knowing how it can sometimes affect you. So there is full knowledge (how it may affect you) and full consent - you willingly played the game. That only leaves grave matter.
7. I can’t see playing a game being grave matter.

All three things together are necessary for a sin to be mortal - grave matter, full knowledge, full consent.

Your decision, but you could just mention in confession that you played a text based game knowing it could possibly lead to arousal as it had in the past.

Depending on how many other people are waiting for confession, whether it is prior to Mass and any other considerations, but I think it would be beneficial to you if you asked the priest at the end of your confession, if playing that game with that personal effect would be a mortal sin. I say this, because then having your answer would help form your conscience, and resolve the question for you.

You can confess this in 10 seconds simply by telling the priest that you put yourself in a near occasion of sexual sin by playing a game that gets you sexually aroused. You can also say that this happened some time ago but you haven’t confessed it before because you weren’t sure how to put it into words, and that you’ve been receiving Communion during this time.

That’s all you need to say. The priest will ask any questions or give any advice he thinks appropriate. Don’t play the game again.
