Im one that suffors from impure thoughts and trying to overcome masturbation. my qustion is the following becuase im not sure if it counts or not…i hope it does not.

when i wake up in the morning, i realise that im on my stomach. well like everyone else, who doesent stretch when they wake up? is it a sin / masturbating if your stretching wether its on your stomach or in any other position , you happen to be aroused at the time, even slighlty, and you get stimulated, even for an instent, and deep down in your heart and mind, that that was not your intention, but only an unfortnet after effect?

A grievous matter, sufficient reflection, and full consent of the will, are the conditions that make a mortal sin.

From the Compendium of the Catechism…issued by Pope Benedict XVI
  1. When does one commit a mortal sin?
1855-1861
1874

One commits a mortal sin when there are simultaneously present: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent. This sin destroys charity in us, deprives us of sanctifying grace, and, if unrepented, leads us to the eternal death of hell. It can be forgiven in the ordinary way by means of the sacraments of Baptism and of Penance or Reconciliation.
  1. When does one commit a venial sin?
1862-1864
1875

One commits a venial sin, which is essentially different from a mortal sin, when the matter involved is less serious or, even if it is grave, when full knowledge or complete consent are absent. Venial sin does not break the covenant with God but it weakens charity and manifests a disordered affection for created goods. It impedes the progress of a soul in the exercise of the virtues and in the practice of moral good. It merits temporal punishment which purifies.

The CCC also notes that the deliberate consent is also complete consent…

If you did not intend to stimulate your genitals but it happened by accident, then it is not a mortal sin. It is a venial sin which although you need not confess it to a priest, you should at least pray for forgiveness for it. However, if you know you have a tendency to feel stimulated when stretching on your stomach and you do it anyway as a way to relieve your aroused state, then it becomes a mortal sin but it could be venial sin if it is out of a strong force of habit and you are not fully in control. I hope you make an effort to stop doing that.

May God bless you.
