Okay so I struggle with lust. (And I’m aware that is a mortal sin) but is receiving communion before going to confession really a mortal sin? I was trying to go to confession but I never had the chance because the confessional room was always empty, or the queue was too long and the priest could not have confession with everyone.

I saw that it is a mortal sin here online, but nobody ever told me this in real life. Like in my catechism class or anything. And I skipped communion one sunday and I felt really miserable. So on Holy Thursday I queued up for it and I was just so unsure whether it is really a mortal sin or is it just the opinion of somebody. I had communion today too (good friday). I don’t know if I committed something wrong bc I was not 100% sure that it was or not.

Anxiety gets you nowhere. Confess when you can (soon is best), pray for internal conversion and forgiveness, and trust in Gods unknowable mercy and the power of the death of His Son on the cross. This is the only hope we have as sinners.

Am I allowed to take communion then? Before I confess? (I will of course try my best to go asap)

Receiving communion without having gone to confession is only grave matter if you are conscious of having committed mortal sin. If you do not have a mortal sin on your conscience then you may receive Communion without prior sacramental confession. You say you struggle with lust, but you didn’t say you’d committed any kind of act under that heading. So be at peace. Remember that for a sin to be mortal, three criteria must be met–grave matter, full knowledge of the gravity of the act, and free consent of the will. You didn’t say you had actually done anything sinful.

If you are aware of an unconfessed mortal sin, then you must refrain from communion until you get to confession; call the parish office and see if there is priest available, but this is a really busy time of the year for them and regular confession may not be scheduled.

It is like inviting the King into a dirty house. You would be best to offer tea on the lawn, before insulting Him by having to moved the soiled laundry from the chair you are offering Him.
However, you seem very confused about the seriousness of the sin, not a good sign in deciding if a sin is mortal. I, personally would clean up the house before I had the temerity to invite Him inside. Ask the Lord for all the spiritual gifts he is able to give you including perfect contrition and then wake up a priest if you have to. I cannot understand priests relying on office hours when they are the paramedics. Throw rocks on the roof if necessary but get to one quickly as you can. Why come to Easter Feast dressed in the wrong gear.

Lust is a mortal sin in thoughts, if deliberate, freely committed, with full knowledge.
If a lustful thought is lulled over and over pondered and relished, rather than immediately renounced, under the above three conditions it’s a mortal sin.

Lust is also a mortal sin, under the three conditions: looking at impure pictures, or scenes on TV, etc

Yes I think the focus of the situation should be cultivating repentance and submission to God in His Mercy. The devil always loves to trick me into obsessing over degree of sin rather than just seeing the facts: all sin is sin and all sin separates me from God. I would not receive Communion again until I confessed but not beat myself up over not being able to ‘decide’ if something was mortal or venial or perrenial or bicentenntial etc. In my experience focusing too much on that pulled me away from reality that God is saddened by my sin and I must repent of all sin, regardless. I hope what Im saying is coherent 😃

My understanding is that if there is a grave reason and no opportunity for confession exists, before communing, if you make an act of perfect contrition and vow to confess as soon as possible after receiving communion, it isn’t a mortal sin.

From the Code of Canon Law:
Can. 916 A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to celebrate Mass or receive the body of the Lord without previous sacramental confession unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition which includes the resolution of confessing as soon as possible.

From the Code of Canon Law:
I believe in this case thought a grave reason , as in this case would be death … For example on your death bed no chance to get a Priest but an extraordinary minister is there … Well in that case yes you can take the Host… Simply saying We;ll, no Priests can hear me today guess Ill do it anyway Isn’t a grave reason
