Hi everyone, I have a question regarding a VERY COMMON issue: speeding, I understand for the most part that speeding to keep up with traffic is not sinful, but what if you’re driving on a road with VERY VERY little to no traffic, is it a sin to go 45 in a 35, and mainly speaking, would it be sinful to go 90-100 in a 70mph zone with no traffic, thanks!

Please, just follow the Speed Limit and don’t put yourself and others at risk.

Well that’s my question, I can’t put others at risk if they aren’t on the road, and I am a law abiding citizen I just wondered if it is sinful and very dangerous to go 90-100 on an empty interstate

If you are putting yourself at risk, it is still a grave sin. Talking about the 100 Mph scenario on the empty interstate.

Understand. Would 100 mph be putting myself at risk (good driver, not tired, reliable vehicle, good road, not under any influence)?

But unforseen circumstances can still occur. Blowout for example. It would be more dangerous at higher speeds. It could be deadly though, even at the speed limit. Higher speed could compound it.

Yea u make sense with that, but going 70 vs 100 and having a blowout, I think you would be dead either way. And I read what the other poster linked and I still don’t have an answer, I live in a semi-busy area, but I am referring to time of day with probably little to no cars

Speeds of 100 mph are not immoral in and of themselves. I crack the old century mark every once in a while. I am a fast driver. I’m also a fast skier and a former rodeo guy. Those are far more dangerous than cranking the old speedster up! It’s not mortally sinful to play football, rodeo, or ski.

Speeding is speeding. Leave earlier and you won’t feel the need to speed. It’s never safe.
