I am 14, I do things on my phone that aren’t bad at all, but I don’t tell my parents because they wouldn’t approve. I have social media accounts that they likely wouldn’t let me have if I told them.

So basically what I’m doing isn’t bad, but I’m hiding it from my parents. is this a sin?

I’m pretty sure they definitely wouldn’t let you have the social media accounts if you told them because of the deceit involved.

What you are doing is bad. You’re taking advantage of the trust they’ve put in you. Own up and don’t do it anymore.

How is it not bad if it’s something of which your parents would disapprove?

Idk I guess since I don’t do anything bad and my parents are overprotective

You may not be doing anything you consider bad on your phone, but what you are doing is deceiving and lying to your parents. Which is certainly bad.

You won’t get anywhere by sneaking around behind their backs. Once they find out, they will become even more protective. If you think they are too overprotective be mature and adult enough to try and talk to them about it. Hiding it and disrespecting them isn’t okay.

What are you defining as “not bad”? And if it’s not bad, why would your parents disapprove?

I thought my parents were overprotective too when I was 14, but now I see they were a gift from God. I know it feels like they’re overprotective , but in the long run I’m confident you’ll be grateful they are protective of you. It kept me from doing bad things, out of wrong social circles, etc. I’d suggest just telling them what you’re doing since they’re your parents and one of 10 commandments is honor your Father and Mother.

Obedience to your parents is a commandment.

Take it to Confession and stop disobeying them.

Yes this is disobeying them with the phone they let you have. If I found out my kid was doing that behind my back, they would no longer have a smart phone. I’d find them a dumb phone (calls and texts only). As it is I’m thinking dumb phone is the way to go.

It seems you have a few options
  1. Delete all those accounts and stop using them immediately. Under no circumstances continue as you do not have their permission.
  2. Tell your parents what you have been doing, accept whatever consequences and then see if they are willing to let you use some of those accounts under certain conditions such as they have complete access to see what you are doing on social media.

Would it still be bad if I just told my mom? My dad tends to overreact. I’m really scared I don’t know what to do

Sure—you can ask your mom if these accounts are ok. If she says no, delete them.
