I was gonna use a person phone and research up something and there were alot of tabs open on their browser so I decided to close them. While looking through the different tabs; a few tabs were on pornography. Is this considered as sin?, However I did not intend to watch porngraphy

Scrupulosity. Please don’t put these questions on the forum. You are hurting yourself, even if you don’t realize it. I have the condition myself, and I can tell you that you will not help yourself by seeking answers here.

Talk to a real Priest, perhaps at your next Confession and explain what happened. Then follow his advice. Period.

No, it is not a sin, as it is not a deliberate act. Sin is a knowing deliberate immoral act.

It is normal for Catholics to have questions on what is and is not sinful. I would not jump to the conclusion that the person has the problem called scruples. Also, we should welcome questions from fellow Catholics on what is and is not moral. In my opinion, that is an appropriate use of the “moral theology” forum.

read the OP’s posting history. I have OCD/scrupulosity and I know it when I see it.

Not if you’ve gotten to know a user’s posting history.

And no, some posters’ questions should not be answered here; they should go to their trusted confessor. This place can be extremely harmful for those whose scruples are out of control. Further, a lot of these scrupulous are extraordinarily hardheaded, always posting the same things here despite being advised to do what the scrupulous ought to do. They should not be encouraged, and that means not giving them the answers here, even if they’re theoretically correct.

Please talk to your priest or call you parish office to find a spiritual advisor. May God bless you.

You are scrupulous. Please talk to your pastor. The internet is not the place to get help with this issue. Several posters have urged you to seek guidance. Have you reached out to anyone?

Holy smokes these threads are getting ridiculous! Can we just rename the forums to “Scruples R Us” and be done with it already?

No it isn’t a sin.

In the future, when you borrow the phone of another, do not look through their history. Use the phone as you agreed to use it. Don’t invade the privacy of a person who was nice enough to loan something to you.

If you use the phone for the purpose that you asked to use it, you would not have discovered the porn.

If you suffer from scruples, why would you use the phone in a manner that you did not agree to use it? You are bringing issues of scrupulosity upon yourself. When you make a deal, stick to the deal. Do not be helpful or nosy.

Please don’t encourage scrupulous people with your responses. The only people who should address their questions are their confessors. The rest of us only promote their illness by responding.

How is it encouraging to tell someone to use something as they have agreed to use it? If they stick to their agreement, the issue of scrupulosity will never arise. When you agree to do research, you are doing research. Doing research does not entail reviewing someone’s internet history. If you follow the terms of your agreement, you won’t end up with ethical dilemmas. Only doing research = No pornographic websites.

By answering, you’re encouraging them to come back with more ridiculously scrupulous questions. The best thing you can say is “seek help from a priest and a therapist.”

Your statement is all sound and correct. People would be well advised to follow it.

Except for the scrupulous, it is the wrong answer, as is any other answer, outside of:

“Get off the forums and seek real help.”

I know you’re trying to be helpful. But this is not helpful for the scrupulous. You need to understand how they think. You may be equipped with sound logic, but that will bounce right off of them. For the scrupulous, they must be discouraged off these boards, and to seek help from their trusted confessors.
