So My brother downloaded a copyrighted movie illegally. I watched it with him because he kept on urging me. Did I sin. I never encouraged him to download it. I actually said he should stop downloading movies like that. so did I sin?

I have come to a conclussion it is

You were given good advice by the first response. Ask your priest at your next Confession.

I know that it’s stealing to illegally download a movie. It’s called Pirating. Does your brother know that?

Maybe think of it this way… if someone said to you… “I just robbed a gas station and I have $100.00… wanna go eat?” What would your reaction be to that? You’d probably say “No thanks”. Hope this helps.

I don’t think it was a sin because you did not download the movie, you told him that he should not do that, and you did not cooperate in any material way with his sin. Your act of watching the movie was not necessary to the act of downloading the movie.

Knowing fully it is wrong to download the movie, then it is also wrong to watch the illegally-downloaded movie. Not only that, by watching with his brother, he unintentionally and indirectly encouraged him to download even more movies.

Am I thinking too much on this matter?

no no. I think it is a sin. Would you eat with a friend who just robbed a bank? would you eat with stolen money?

thats my opinion 👍

Isn’t it also expressly against the law to lend videos and dvds and music to other people? I don’t think thats a sin.
