Is this a sin?????????????????????

Hello I have a question. I have only been Catholic for a little while and I have been basically told by people that I am sinning because I am more of a “redneck” and not “sophisticated”. Is this a sin? I don’t think it is. I mean I am sorry that I would rather go mud boggin then to go to a art museum. Or that I would rather read about deer hunting then the stock market. But that’s just who I am.
 
It’s a cultural difference…not a sin. Or a lot of my friends and family are in BIG trouble…😛

I’ve known plenty of sophisticated sinners and saintly rednecks…you can live your faith in different ways provided you keep God’s laws. 👍
 
Ask them to show you in the Catechism where being a redneck or even being “uncultured” is a sin. Sheesh.
 
hehe kind of a funny question. I think as long as you respect the environment while you do your dirt biking or whatever it is 😉 There was that recently released list of sins - some pertaining to environmental issues.

Nice to see Catholics from all different backgrounds.
 
If being a redneck deer hunter is a sin then my DH has no hope of salvation. Though if he doen’t start getting more hunting and fishing in he might have to start visiting those art museums:D

but it does invite one to want to put 3 ft pink flamingo pathlights up to the front door and along the drive way - seriously. just think, who could drive past a sight like that and not smile? I want to spread some joy!

With all respect to Jeff Foxworthy, you might be a Redneck Catholic if:
  • You use an Igloo cooler as both luggage and a liquid refreshment carrier.
  • You come to Mass in your good jeans, and save the “everyday” jeans for the K of C fish fry.
  • Your priest drives a racecar, but doesn’t cut it for NASCAR (I know a priest who does indeed fit this description).
But it is no sin!👍
 
Our priest in our old town was a redneck! He even planted flowers in a tractor tire in the garden next to the church. It’s certainly not a sin. Relax and be yourself. 👍
 
If being a redneck was a sin, some stretches of the country would be under the interdict.

I don;t believe personal taste is considered sin unless immoral.
 
better to have a red neck than a stiff one.
besides–ask Jesus if he would rather be fishing or at some museum? how many times do you think he went camping? or ate outside in large crowd (aka Church Supper/Family Reunion)? And I bet you anything when he was working as a carpenter he was wearing the equivalent of a ‘blue collar’ wolverine shirt and carhartts!
and we all KNOW Peter was a redneck–he carried a big knife(sword) and could use it too…even his accent gave him away.

what people? if they were friends, get new friends. you never read it in the catechism or heard it in church

as long as mud boggin whatever that may be is not immoral you are not sinning.
 
I wouldn’t trust these people at all when it comes to sin and not sin issues. It seems that they are saying that anyone who does not live life the way they do is sinning. That’s getting close (if not already there) to the sin of pride.

If you ever have doubts on an issue, it never hurts to consult a priest.

I am from NC and we always learned to spell it y’all.😛 Many of the people in my family is the poster children for redneckitis. So, if you are sinning so are some very, very sweet people in my family.
 
It would be y’all since it is short for you all and what you have cut out from that would be the ou.
 
Still trying to figure out where my Oklahoma family get you’ns though.
