Is this a sin?

Maybe someone can help me. If I don’t believe something is a sin, and yet the church teaches that it is, is it ? And would one be under obligation to confess this sin? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
 
Yes, if the Church teaches something is a sin and you know that the Church teaches that it is, then it is indeed a sin.

The obligation to confess depends on whether it is a mortal sin (yes, you have to confess) or venial (confession recommended but not required).
 
When you say “I don’t believe something is a sin” do you mean that you were unaware of the action’s sinful nature at the time, or that you disagree with the Church?

If this is something you are wrestling with, I suggest you find out ***why ***the Church says it is a sin. Doing that changed my mind about contraception!

May I add a little to Ruthies good answser? Yes, first find out why it is a sin and then if after serious consideration you still dont feel it sinful, take it to the Lord in prayer. Be honest and ask Him why your conscience seems to deviate from Church teaching.
 
Thank all of you for your help, with my question. This was my first post, and I am very surprised someone answered. Thank you all again. I guess I have some things to think about and clear up in mind and heart.
