I volunteer in a charity shop: Oxfam. They have just started to sell condom packages, in which people donate a certain amount of money, and Oxfam sends packs of condoms to third world countries.

Should I stop voluneering in Oxfam on moral grounds?

There are so many moral places to volunteer -

Your Parish.

St. Vincent de Paul

Local Crisis Pregnancy Center

Habitat for Humanity

Catholic Charities
 
Is there another charity that does a similar work (minus the condoms) that you could volunteer at?
 
I would suggest looking elsewhere, sadly. Like a PPer… there are lots of places that would be very to have another volunteer.

Looking at the posting history of Promethius, one will quickly see that he/she supports and promotes many things that are not supported by Catholic moral teachings.

As many others have said, look elsewhere to volunteer your irreplaceable time and efforts.

I tend to avoid this forum as i have little to contrabute. However i would like to ask if these are the ‘One’ condoms. They do not promote the use of condoms with the profits but rather they promote HIV and AIDS awareness and help those affected with it with medical care and support.

I know that condoms are against catholic teaching but these are actually doing a lot to help people with AIDS. Which is no bad thing. I cannot answer weather or not selling these is a sin.

But what they do with the profits is not against catholic teaching.

I would stop volunteering, but not without informing them why I was stopping. Its an excellent chance to witness to your faith. Even if Oxfam doesn’t discontinue this service, maybe some of the other volunteers will follow your lead and refuse to lend their help to the cause.

I certainly don’t wish for any charitable organization to suffer loss of volunteers, but I do wish for those volunteers to make a stand for their beliefs when necessary.

If you spend a moment on the Oxfam web site, you will see that they are proponents of condoms - this is nothing new for them.

If you quit, then yes, of course, and don’t be silly. Even if you didn’t quit… as long as you aren’t the one handling the condoms, you are, at worst, an distant accessory to remote material cooperation in evil. I tend to fall in the “let’s deny Communion to more people” camp (pro-abortion politicians, for example), but I can’t imagine this is sufficiently grave to constitute mortal sin.

That said, I agree with everyone else: get out of there. There are so many other places where you can do good without the taint of destroying the family and promoting the spread of HIV/AIDS through sexual promiscuity.

Which almost leads me to another rant, because, despite the many claims of the MSM and posters like Squishy to the contrary, widespread contraception has not slowed the spread of disease in Africa. Abstinence programs, believe it or not, have. Them’s real numbers. But I have to go write a paper, so I’ll leave this all be for now.

My sincerest of apologies. I mistook you for another member with a similar name. I have made an erroneous statement regarding you and that was wrong. To be clear, I have not seen you make a post which is contrary to the faith. Please forgive me for my mistake.

I would.

Planned Parenthood offers gynecological exams for low income women. Knowing that they also perform more abortions than any other entity, should I consider working for them?

You can go to Communion if you have obeyed the fasting regulations and are in a state of grace. In regard to your volunteer activities I can’t see a serious sin if you have not willingly participated in their indiscretions.

I wouldn’t feel right about volunteering at such a place. If you are asking, then it is apparent you don’t feel right about it, either. Maybe you should put your good efforts into something more deserving. There are so many opportunities out there. I don’t think it would be too hard to find another charity.
