The Small Miracle is a book by Paul Gallico. It is about a boy who is a orphan in Assisi Italy. His donkey falls ill and he thinks if he takes him to St. Francis tomb he will be cured. In order to take him he must get permission from the pope.

What happen to the boy in the story?

It is not a true story.

The author, Paul Gallico, was a writer and wrote many stories.

The Poseidon Adventure, which was turned into the well known movie, is an example.

The Silent Meow and Thomasina are two of my favorite books.

I think Paul Gallico also wrote the “Mrs 'Arris” stories, like “Mrs 'Arris Goes To Paris”, where she saves up her money to buy a Christian Dior gown, or “Mrs 'Arris Goes To New York”, where (IIRC) she helps a young boy find his father.

I often semi-quote (semi because I remember the sentiment but not the exact words) Mrs 'Arris’s friend who wanted a fur coat - every time she had the money saved up, the price went up. Story of my life!

Paul Gallico had a knack for writing fiction that sounds like it could have really happened.

I remember that “Mrs. 'Arris goes to Paris” was made into a TV movie many years ago, back in 1992. I remember seeing it on TV.

Personally, I think that it was a lovely presentation. 🙂

It starred Angela Lansbury as Mrs. 'Arris, and Omar Sharif was in it, too.
