Is this a valid reason for missing Mass?

My family goes to Mass every Sunday. However, today my twin 3 1/2 year olds woke up at 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. and would not go back to sleep. My son has epilepsy, as well, and lack of sleep can trigger seizures. We did everything we could to get them back to sleep, but nothing worked. Finally, they fell asleep after all the Masses in our parish were concluded. I feel terrible about not going to Mass today, but there was no way my kids would have made it through Mass being exhausted, compounded with the health concern for my son. Was this a valid reason for missing our Sunday obligation?

Dear friend,

It doesn’t sound like you had any alternatives. This being the case, you are certainly excused for missing Sunday Mass.
