I went to Confession this morning & the priest said the following prayer of Absolution at the end: “In the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who received the power to forgive sins from His Father in Heaven & by the power of the Church I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son & of the Holy Spirit Amen”

Is this prayer permissible or do I need to Go to Confession again?

Thanks a lot 🙂

Hi,

It is valid, but illicit. The priest is obliged to use the form that the Church uses. He made up his own rite which he does not have the right to do. But he did absolve you in the name of the Trinity and therefore it is valid.
