wisdomseeker:
can we consider the followers of other religions other than catholicism to be followers of a false God?

for example: Protestants, which follows ML, Wesley, Calvin, all these men came up with their own interpretation of SS.
how about Henry VIII? Joseph Smith, hinduism, muslims, and others?
“Who am i that the Mother of God should come to me.” *

Their God is not false. They have the same God as we do. It is many of their beliefs that are embedded in falsehoods.

that is what i am saying. dont we have to worship God in Truth? otherwise it becomes falsehood.
just like St Peter said about different interpretation of the Word which leads to their own distraction.

"Here someone may ask: since the canon of scriptures is complete, and is in itself adequate, why is there any need to join to its authority the understanding of the church? Because Holy Scripture, on account of its depth, is not accepted in a universal sense. The same statements are interpreted in one way by one person, in another sense by someone else, with the result that there seem to be as many opinions as there are people…Therefore, on account of the number and variety of errors, there is a need for someone to lay down a rule for the interpretation of the prophets and the apostles in such a way that it is directed by the rule of the catholic church."

Not really the god of the LDS was once a man on another world(planet) that achieved godhood then created our world. That is not the same as the Judo/Christian God of all creation.

Just a thought: What is the litmus test to be a “real” christian? Works are a good witness to our faith and how we love one another that others might know we follow God. There is failings with both Catholics and Protestants on this course.
Protestants don’t want to Pray to Mary. So what? According to the catechism it’s not required to believe that for salvation.
Protestants don’t believe in praying to the saints. So what? The Catechism does not require this for salvation.

The differences that matter to the RCC is the belief in the Eucharist and submission to the Bishop of Rome. But even these the Chruch does not condem protestant believers from salvation because we both believe in the authority of scriptures, the trinity, the birth, death, resurection, and the return of Jesus Christ. From my understanding the RCC only views a protestant in danger for their salvation when they’ve come to the conclussion that the Catholic Church represents Gods revealed truth in it’s entirety and still fail to submit. Protestants are considered to worship the same God as Catholics. Just ask your priest or review the catechism.

I’m trying to understand the CC better. I’ve lost count of how many people tell me that they have facts, proof and evidance that they’ve been around for 2k years. I’m trying to understand if thats the core you guys really teach as being “why we are right”.
If you read the writings of all persons claiming to be “Christians” in the first 1500 years of Christianity, you will find that pretty much all of them were Catholic in their beliefs, other than a few heretics and gnostics and such.

I think the real question goes to our protestant brethren. What do they have going for them? 500 years of changing doctrines, divisions in the thousands and no unity whatsoever. I was protestant and converted to the Catholi Church after years of frustration in these very anti catholic churches calling themselves “bible believing Christians” that cannot agrre with each other on much of anything.

Show me your protestant beliefs and preachers and their writings concerning the scriptures in the first 1500 years of Christian church history because I do not see many, if any at all.

i think you mean to say that the “claimed god” of the lds was calimed to be all of that, in claim by Smith and others.

I did not mean to imply that it was not a false god. Just that their god is not the GOD of the Trinity.

it is the claim of a mere man, with no preannouncement. Therefore it is a man made religion.

God only built one Church, and it has stood since it’s inception in 33ad, visibly, and the gates of hell never prevailed against it.

Is that really really true? I had never heard that before.

That describes what I understand as the mormon view of the person they refer to when they say " Our Father in Heaven"

Just to validate that it is true.🙂

“The top heaven is reserved for devout Mormons, who go on to become gods and rulers of their own universes. By having their wives and children “sealed” to them during an earthly, temple ceremony, these men-gods will procreate billions of spirits and place them into future, physical bodies. These future children will then worship their father-gods, obeying Mormon commandments, and eventually take their place in the eternal progression to their own godhood.”

Joseph Smith was said to be involved with the Masons and a lot of Mormon ritual is similar to Scottish Rite Freemasonry. But was also just a talented Science-Fiction writer, I think.

I grew up in Mesa Az a few miles from the Mormon Temple. I grew up around alot of mormons and have had many Mormon friends. The first time I heard that was from a close friends father who had hired some of us teens one summer to do some work for his small business in Mesa. He taught us on the way to the job site every morning. I’ve read it from several sources as well but can’t really remember specifically. I thought of it as fairly common knowledge fro Mormons.

The more “peculiar” Mormon doctrines are not found in the BoM but in the Pearl of Great Price and Doctrines and Covenants which LDS accepts as inspired scripture along with the KJV Bible and the BoM.

The Pearl of Great Price contains the “Book of Moses” and the “Book of Abraham”–which Smith said he translated from some hieroglyph texts that accompanied a mummy that Smith’s followers purchased from a traveling roadshow. The original papyrus manuscript was thought lost in the great Chicago fire in the 19th century–but critics thought that Smith’s “restored” drawings made the papyrus likely copies of the Egyptian Book of Breathings and the Book of the Dead–standard funerary texts of ancient Egyptian pagan religion.

For everyone but believing Mormons, the issue was settled when the documentable papayrus (SAME damage , bills of shipment, etc…) showed up, unburnt, in the New York Metropolitan Museam–and yes, they were pagan funerary texts, nothing more or less. The matter is compounded by Smith’s recorded “translations” (by his secretary) of simple Egyptian hieroglyphs (e.g., “water”, “of/the”, “large/great”) and Smith somehow reading entire sentences out of each glyph–sentences that appear in the Pearl to this very day.

I’m not interested in whether you like it or not. I’m interested in how you can believe in an “apostasy” that has no clear date on which it occurred, especially in light of the fact that even the earliest records from the disciples of John the Apostle themselves contradict Joseph Smith’s teachings. How can you say an apostasy occurred, when even men learning directly at the feet of the Apostles are in harmony with Catholic teaching, and in disharmony with Mormon beliefs?
I can because it did happen. Judas leaned at Christ feet and that did not stop him for going astray.
