I like your idea very much, but …
You said you were quiet. You said you wanted to get people
to notice you and your group so they would take interest and
approach you, rather than you approaching them. This would
solve your dilemma about wanting to share your faith, but yet
you are quiet.
One thing I think deserves thinking about is that you are not
the only quiet person in the world, there are many. If one such
quiet person saw the group of you all with the cords, might they
by chance feel “left out”, like they don’t belong to your group,
since they don’t wear a cord and don’t even know what it means?
A quiet person may not ever get the nerve to boldly approach
you and inquire about the cord.
I am thinking this way because Jesus was always “blending in”
and not drawing attention to himself. He was welcoming to all,
and didn’t wear distinctive clothing or any sign to set Him and
His disciples apart from others.
The cord idea is neat and I still like it, but deep down we know
that hard as it is, we have to learn to have relationships with
others, not just get their interest.

I liked your post about Rosaries, fergal. I was actually considering that. Maybe if the cord idea dosen’t go through, that is a possibility.

A door did just open for me! I got some great news regarding the possible Apostolate that could help me make it into a reality! It came in a PM so if I get permission, I’ll post the news! Praise God!

I love the icon in your signature!!

I was thinking of starting an apostolate that encourages Catholic young men to be proud of and practice their faith in and after high school and college. I know a lot of things happen in college and high school that cause many young men my age to 1) not be proud of being Catholic 2) loose their faith and 3) stop practicing their religion. The idea for the main symbol and practivce of the apostolate comes from Ephesians 6:14: “Stand firm, therefore having girded your loins with truth…” I was thinking of involving some sort of cord similar to the cord of St. Joseph as part of membership. It would hang down below the shirt about four inches on each side causing them to show a devotion and to get people asking them questions like “What’s that cord hanging from your waist?” Then they can just say “I’m Catholic.” and explain what it means.

I got the idea from the Jewish men that wear their prayer shawls in their shirt and the tassels hang out their pants. It got me asking questions! “Hey! What are those tassels hanging out of their pants!?”.

I haven’t worked out all of the details yet.

I have LOTS of connections with FOCUS (it’s HQ is in my hometown so I’ve grown up with the missionaries and the founder all around our parish). That was what the PM was pertaining to. I hope the Spirit can speak for me, because I am so nervous (partly because I’m so exited for this idea to take form, and partly because I’m terrified nobody will like it!!). Pray for me to recieve Courage, Humility, and Fear of the Lord through this journey He’s awakened me to. (And thanks for your past prayers!!

If you have been confirmed, scapularkid, then you have already received the gifts of courage, humility, and fear of the Lord. So you need to set your mind on things above, and, realizing that you already have these things, concentrate on the fact that the Lord will act through you when you are yieled to HIm. Instead of being nervous, focus on thanking HIm for all He has already done for you, and what He will do through you. Thanks and praise are the solution to nerves and feelings of inadequacy. It is Christ in you, the hope of glory,and not yourself.
