After growing a tremendous amount spiritually, I went to my first confession after 15 years. That was 2 years ago. Since then, I have studied my Catholic faith even more and just read that when you confess, the number of times (or approxiamete number of times,) you commit a sin must be mentioned or the confession isn’t valid. I am terrified! I do not remember specifically doing this. I have been to confession many times since then, but do not ever remember specifically saying how many times I committed each sin. Are all my confessions invalid? Also, I feel like I really have to concentrate on what I am saying, preferably alone, for me to really feel sincere about what I am saying, especially to God. When I say my act of contrition, I do not feel like I am saying them from my heart because I am “on the spot” and nervous and I may just be fearing hell. Does this make my confession invalid. Thank you for any response!

Hi,

Granted, people are encouraged to mention the number of times they have committed various sins, HOWEVER the validity of a Confession does NOT depend on whether one mentions the number of times a one has committed a sin or not.
