I was going through my library and found a book I purchased several years ago but have not read and was wondering if anyone knew if this book is presented in a historically accurate fashion. The name of the book is:

Pontiffs - Popes Who Shaped History
by: John Jay Hughes

Publisher: Our Sunday Visitor

Thanks,

Larry

Based on the punlisher, I would say most likely.

The reason I asked is because on the back cover there is an endorsement from an individual with the National Catholic Reporter (possible red flag).

Usually OSV is good. However it might depend on when it was published. I do not know the book.

what is the date of the book? hint, who is the last Pope mentioned? NC Reporter used to be a fairly reliable consistently Catholic publication many years ago, just as NC Register used to be much more liberal years ago, so the time periode matters.

This is really off topic but since you guys are talking of NC reporter and NC register. Does anyone know anything about the National Catholic reader program. I am planning on using it in our homeschooling curriculum, but now I am wondering if it is good.

Thank you,

Monica

The date is 1994 and also doing a bit more research, I have found Fr. John Jay Huges (Jesuit) has written for America Magazine (Jesuit Magazine with a liberal bent). I may research some of his articles but not sure I am in a hurry to read this one.
