Is this disrespectful to Mormons?

Would you refer to Muhammad Ali as Cassius Clay then? Or would you call Bob Dylan Robert Zimmerman?

The people they manage to initially convince, if they do, will soon have their eyes opened to the deception. Don’t underestimate them. The truth will come out. The Mormons can’t change everything about themselves.

Actually, I have often referred to both men by their real names. It’s one way I find out who is only familiar with the celebrity and who knows the person.

I’m uncultured. I have no idea who those people are.

You can believe that all you like, but when you see “the Church” used or discussed in any mainstream media in USA, it isn’t talking about “all of Christianity”.

One could, I suppose, argue that in UK, “the Church” might mean the Church of England.

I cite the definition from the Google dictionary:
church
  1. a building used for public Christian worship.
“they came to church with me”

synonyms: place of worship, house of God, house of worship; More
  • the hierarchy of clergy of a Christian organization, especially the Roman Catholic Church or the Church of England.
noun: the Church

Speaking of the late athlete, the sect he belonged to was the Nation of Islam, and they called themselves Muslims and are popular on the American continent where a lot of people aren’t as familiar with the standard beliefs of the standard Islam religion.

The NOI relationship to Islam is very similar to the Mormons relationship to Roman Catholicism or Protestantism for that matter.

They can call themselves Muslims without a modifier here in America, but I don’t think that kind of move would play as well if the NOI sought converts in the Middle East were some of their beliefs about Elijah Muhammed and Wallace Fard are really not recognized as “islamic”.

Much like beliefs in Mormon and Moroni aren’t really considered Christian by us.

The sect he originally belonged to was NOI, then he switched to Sunni and later to sufi

Yes, it does refer the building itself and it does refer to particular denominations, but when speaking of ‘THE CHURCH’ in its entirety, it refers to all of Christianity, as I stated earlier… just as Islam speaks to the entire community of Muslims, regardless of specific sects. I can see if you are a member of a denomination, you would use it in that context, but it is much broader than a specific group.

You are free to use the term however you like. You can use it personally yourself to mean the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster if you wish.

The Google definition shows that the culture generally uses it in the way shown.

Except their church isn’t His church. The things Mormons have claimed about their Jesus and “Father God” would make the real Jesus cry.

I don’t see how this could possibly be considered disrespectful when previous LDS prophets had no problem with it and the LDS church itself paid for an adverising campaign called “I am a Mormon” put on billboards all over the country. The whole thing is silly and a waste of time.

It is funny, though, how Mormons eat up everything the prophet says as gospel truth no matter how silly. One of my wife’s Facebook friends just put out a post that people are not supposed to call her a “Mormon” anymore. Give me a break.

Well and the way their church works the next president could just as quickly reverse course on a whim and claim it’s some revelation of God that they’re supposed to embrace the name again.

Weird. I only want to be called chicken pigeon.

When I was a Mormon I had an assignment in the Primary as the chorister. I taught the young kids ages 3-11 the Primary songs. One of the songs of indoctrination that they all know ends with:

Follow the prophet.
Follow the prophet.
Follow the prophet.
Don’t go astray–ay.

Follow the prophet.
Follow the prophet.
Follow the prophet.
He knows the way.
