Would you refer to Muhammad Ali as Cassius Clay then? Or would you call Bob Dylan Robert Zimmerman?

I believe ‘The Church’ tends to mean all of Christianity, not just the RCC.Anywhere in the rest of the world, “The Church” means the Catholic Church.
church
“they came to church with me”
- a building used for public Christian worship.
synonyms: place of worship, house of God, house of worship; More
noun: the Church
- the hierarchy of clergy of a Christian organization, especially the Roman Catholic Church or the Church of England.
Speaking of the late athlete, the sect he belonged to was the Nation of Islam, and they called themselves Muslims and are popular on the American continent where a lot of people aren’t as familiar with the standard beliefs of the standard Islam religion.Would you refer to Muhammad Ali as Cassius Clay then?
Yes, it does refer the building itself and it does refer to particular denominations, but when speaking of ‘THE CHURCH’ in its entirety, it refers to all of Christianity, as I stated earlier… just as Islam speaks to the entire community of Muslims, regardless of specific sects. I can see if you are a member of a denomination, you would use it in that context, but it is much broader than a specific group.church

When I was a Mormon I had an assignment in the Primary as the chorister. I taught the young kids ages 3-11 the Primary songs. One of the songs of indoctrination that they all know ends with:It is funny, though, how Mormons eat up everything the prophet says as gospel truth no matter how silly. One of my wife’s Facebook friends just put out a post that people are not supposed to call her a “Mormon” anymore. Give me a break.
