Is this fashion collection sacrilegious?

I am really amazed that anyone would even think that this is what the designer had in mind!!! The “halo hats” are not hats, they are not part of the clothing design! Consider them to be the frame for the work of art which is their clothing.

This is all art and show people!! The designers frame their work in an artistic manner on their models - that’s all it is! You are not going to find halos on the racks at Saks!!

I agree. I love wearing my crucifix. My husband has admitted to me that he always found women more appealing when he saw that they were wearing a crucifix with the corpus. Not necessarily sexually appealling, but because he felt that was a sign that the lady was a Catholic and was showing her devotion. Whether or not that was the lady’s intent, that was how my husband looked at it during that time when he was single and having a hard time finding a nice, Catholic girl.

I guess you and I are “ahtsy-fahtsy” types, Liza. 🙂 ha!ha! I’m looking at it as walking art, too, rather than clothing. Funny thing is that even if they were selling them at Saks and people were walking around NYC with them on, no one would give them a second look up there. We had some dude parading in a spiderman costume up there and none of the locals or regulars thought anything of him. :eek: It was like, “Yawn.”

Sacrilege is the violation or injurious treatment of a sacred object.

Sorry - I don’t see the use of those images as being sacrilegious. I can certainly see how some would, but I don’t. 🤷

Now if the same treatment was being used and the image had blood or excrement on it, or perhaps the woman was dressed as in bondage or some other offensive garb, then yes, I would have to say so. But the model is dressed similar to a bride with the Mother of God over her head. I really don’t see anything wrong with that association.

The lace on that veil is gorgeous, btw! 😃

Some of these outfits are a bit bizarre and go a bit far with using Catholic imagery as a simple tool, but some of the outfits (and one or two of the models) are lovely. I’d never wear most of it, but it’s still cool.

In poor taste? Quite possibly.

Sacrilegious? Only if the low rider trucks or sides of buildings emblazoned with images of Our Lady of Guadalupe are also sacrilegious (these are common in parts of Detroit).

I’m surprised to see this collection from Gaultier. I remember his stuff from 15 years ago- how scandalous and even kind of scary it was. With the exception of a few pieces, this is pretty tame, and some of it is quite lovely.
 
I don’t know if it’s in poor taste, but it’s world class stupid. (I hope I don’t get another hit from the moderator for that!)
 
OK, so in fairness, I looked at the collection again. It’s not as bad as I thought it was.

I agree with lizanne. It’s art. It’s inspiration. It’s couture, not ready-to-wear. Not anything to worry about guys. 🙂

I may get flamed for it but I think some of the pieces are quite pretty.
