Is this Jaywalking?

If I cross a street that isn’t a main road (like the small roads running through suburban neighborhoods) and isn’t busy, would I be jaywalking? What about if there is one car coming slowly down that same street but you absolutely know you can pass by walking fast? Is this act even sinful?

No. Look at the intent of the lawgiver: to protect pedestrians and drivers from injury. If the road is deserted, no one can be injured by such an action. Scurrying across in front of a slow moving car is not a good practice, however. Suppose the driver’s foot slipped on the accelerator pedal - then what would happen? But still, I think it’s more stupid than sinful. Not every stupid thing is a sin.

Come on guys! Traffic rules are made for us; not us for the traffic rules!

No problem at all in breaking a rule when it won’t harm anyone. Human laws ought to help us to achieve our true good; following them is not, and cannot be, an end in itself.
