I just want to know if Catholics consider the kind of baptism in the video is valid? Are there any priests who can tell me? Thanks.

No speakers, so, I cannot tell.

If immersion is done in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and the liquid is water, yes. In general UMC Baptisms are valid.

Why does it have to be a priest that tells you? Many of us in the laity are aware of what constitutes a valid baptism. Would you not believe a deacon, as they are not priests, but they sometimes perform baptisms?

Okay, so why can’t a deacon (who is not a priest) be a professional on the issue of baptism?

I watched the first 20 seconds. That was enough. Yes, it was a valid baptismal form. I cannot speak as to intent, but the form was valid.

There are a lot of unknowns. If the person was already baptised, then it was not a valid baptism. No way to know.

The form of baptism is a valid form. That much I can certainly say.

I just wanted to make sure since the one in the video is similar to a baptism I had when I was a Pentecostal in Assemblies of God when I was 21. The pastor said, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen” and he dunked me under. I am thinking about becoming Catholic and just want to know if my baptism would be accepted. I am assuming form your answer it would?

Not a priest, but it looks perfectly valid to me.

I suppose there are circumstances where this wouldn’t be, if this was a clip from a baptism training film or was otherwise a theatrical performance.

I cannot give you a definite answer on an internet forum about whether or not that particular event was a valid baptism.

What I can say is that what you describe is a valid form of baptism.

I can also add this: from what you say, it seems to me that you have NOTHING to be concerned about.

Exactly.

I don’t know if water was used. It seems like it was water. If it turns out that it was a big vat of lemonade instead, then it wouldn’t be a valid baptism.

That’s exactly why I phrased my response that way: it is a valid form of baptism.

There are all kinds of unknowns—especially unknown is whether or not the subject had already been validly baptised. That, of course, would change everything.

It was water. He said, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen” and then he dunked me under water. I hadn’t been baptized before and AOG is Trinitarian.

I did not mean to imply that YOU were baptized in lemonade!!! Please, no!

No. All I meant was that when I watch the video, I am presuming that water was used. It seems that way, yet I have no way to be certain of it. I cannot make any kind of official judgement over the internet after watching a video. That’s all I’m trying to say. My post is just an opinion based on what I actually see. There is plenty that I cannot see and that I do not know. The words were right and the actions were right. That much I can say.

And again, just to reinforce it: I do not think you have any reason to be concerned about your own baptism. AOG baptisms are generally regarded as valid baptisms (unless something really unusual happens).

So DO NOT WORRY about anything.
