I can feel the scrupulosity flowing on this question, but I still feel I should ask it. I always use my debit cards as credit for a variety of reasons (security, cash back-type bonuses, etc.). At some places (typically gas pumps) they ask something like “Is this debit? Y/N” or I choose no so that it processes it as credit. If you choose yes it asks for your PIN. Would choosing no it’s not a debit card (even though it is a debit card) be lying?

I’m pretty sure that it’s not since it’s really asking how it should run the transaction (as PIN-based or as credit), but I figured I’d see what others thought.

As long as its not fraud I think its ok, you probably don’t have to confess it in reconciliation:D

Not lying at all.

I believe with the kind of card you have selecting “credit” is the only way for the transaction to be accepted.

Be at peace. all is well. 🙂

the debit cards are made to be used as debit or credit, they give you the option on purpose, so don’t worry about it at all.

Yes and I choose credit all the time as my bank charges $.50 for debit but debit allows me to get cash back if I need it…

Not lying. In fact, I do this all the time with my PNC card. I am signed up for PNC Points, and you are encouraged to use it and have it processed as a credit transaction. While you aren’t using it as credit, by having it processed that way, the money “floats”, rather than being immediately debited from your account. The bank makes money on interest while that money is “floating”. And if they have a point system, they pass some of that on to you. So I get cash back or gift certificates when I earn so many points. So, as you surmised, it’s really about what type of transaction you use, not if the card actually is a credit card. Many cards also have certain protections built-in if you use the card as a credit, rather than debit. Your transactions might be protected if you have problems with a merchant, similar to credit cards. You don’t have the same protection if using as a debit. Go ahead and select the credit function, and don’t worry about it.

Hello! I was a victim of a scam. I don’t know how this scam would end. I call for a help to this site insurancefraudhotline.com.au/ and hopefully all the scammers will learn their lessons. Thanks to the hotline!
