I am looking for a new Miraculous Medal and I really love the fact that this one is stainless steel as I wear it under my shirt and I don’t want it to get rubbed (gold) or tarnished (silver).

But didn’t St Catherine’s design say Mary had to be standing on a globe and crushing a serpent’s head?

Is this medal ‘not kosher’ if it doesn’t depict Her crushing a snake? I realized when looking at it that that image usually shows her crushing a snake but this one didn’t have it. That just popped out at me… 🤷

The medal in question. Click here.

Lots of fly-by-night manufacturers are trying to cash in on the “Miraclulous Medal” with their own cheap imitations. You can get the REAL THING primarily in Paris, France. For details on the real scoop, see what Wikipedia has to say about the whole topic.👍

I found a description on the Miraculous Medal Confraternity website. After reading how the medal is supposed to be designed, I am so surprised when I browse even faithful Catholic apostolates only to see some of the medals don’t follow the prescribed design.

(The biggest faux pas [since we’re on a French theme!] is “rays of graces” missing shining from her hands.)

Dont buy medals from secular sources just search for pewter medals on catholic suppliers sites this medal is lacking quite a bit of the original design

Have you tried the AAM of the Vincentians of the Western Province?

History of the American Association of the Miraculous Medal
*
In order to spread devotion to Mary as Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, an association was formed shortly after the first medals were distributed. The Association was established at the motherhouse of the Congregation of the Mission in Paris. (In appearing to Saint Catherine, a Daughter of Charity, Mary entrusted to the Daughters of Charity and the priests of the Congregation of the Mission the work of spreading this devotion to her through her medal.)

**Gradually, other associations were established elsewhere in the world. Pope Pius X recognized these associations in 1905 and approved a charter in 1909.
*
  • In 1918 an Association was established by the Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission in the United States. Its headquarters were at Perryville, Missouri. At first it was operated by the students at Saint Mary’s Seminary under the direction of their religious superior. Soon, the Association expanded and was given its own director, staff, and office space. *

I did a quick Google search (duh…my Millenial card will be revoked shortly I guess). There are some really great Miraculous Medals designed in Italy and France if you can overcome the language barrier on the website.

These medals are really so much nicer than the ones here in the US! So much detail.

You can also find some great vintage Miraculous Medals on Ebay and Etsy.

I was able to get a lovely Sterling Silver medal for half the cost that the online store wanted to charge for the same medal!
