Is this monastery Catholic?

I’m thinking of booking a retreat with the Transalpine Redemptorists, as their mix of old-rite Latin and Eastern Catholic prayers and liturgy, as well as their remoteness seems to be one of the closest things to the authentic traditional Catholicism of Scotland.

However, I’m trying to discern from their website whether they are Catholics in communion with the Pope. They link to the SSPX publication The Catholic but they don’t openly say anywhere on their website that they are SSPX, or that they are not in communion with the Holy See. Nor do they say that they are. I’ve never heard of Ukrainians or Bulgarians in SSPX before, so that gives me some hope that these brothers are faithful.

Is there any way of knowing for certain? It doesn’t feel right to write to them to ask “are you in SSPX?” because that might sound like an accusation. Is there some other way of asking the question?

Thanks for any advice.

The Transalpine Redemptorists were refounded with the support of Msgr. Lefebvre and are closely tied to the SSPX. They are not currently recognized by Rome, however I would not say they are in schism (mere association with the SSPX wouldnt put one in schism after all).

However the superior, Fr. Michael Mary CSSR, recently ordered all his priests to use the revised Good Friday Prayer for the Jews as ordered by Pope Benedict XVI, something that the SSPX itself has not done, and there are rumors that he has entered into negotiations with Rome for full recognization. This is certainly a worthy intention to pray for as the Transalpine Redemptorists are a very holy and devout order.

However, though they are not recognized by Rome at the current time, I personally see no problem with going on a retreat at Papa Stronsay.
