Is this normal? Need advice

When asking a question regarding Catholic doctrine, I always feel that asking one Priest isn’t enough; I feel that I need to ask at least 3-5 in order to “confirm” that the answer is correct. Is this normal, logical thinking or no? Part of me says yes while the other part says no

Furthermore, I also feel that asking other Catholics is not sufficient because “other Catholics are prone to error whereas Priests have years of study” (which is ironic because I’m asking such questions on CAF!)
 
Speaking to other priests about a question isn’t nessesarily bad, If you really want assurance on Catholic Doctrine there is the Catechism to look over.

To also add, there are apps that contain the Catechism and have a search index to look for specific topics that you are looking for in the Catechism.

You mention being scrupulous on several other threads. It sounds like this is some kind of compulsive behavior, which is what scrupulosity also is. You should see a priest and probably a mental health professional about these issues. You definitely should not continue to feed your compulsions by seeking out multiple opinions from many priests, nor should you ask these kinds of questions online.

I guess yes… but it depends what you are asking and more importantly how often. Stay healthy buddy 🙂

Peer review sounds like a good concept. However, is this asking multiple priests just a compulsion, or are you perhaps shopping for the answer that you want?
 
Z you have started around 10 topics in 5 days all related to issues of sin.
That is compulsive behaviour. Its called scruples.

What on earth do you hope to gain by asking amateurs here instead of your 5 priests?
You even admit you know this…yet you still engage in this irrational behaviour.
The difficulty is emotional not intellectual.

Simply stick with your Confessor’s advice and do not indulge your anxiety compulsions on CAF.
It wont help you but in fact makes things worse in short time.

And one more thing.
Stick with your Confessor’s advice.

Working on your relationship w God is wonderful. The Catechism is a good reference to double check or triple check.
It’s not wrong to reask Priests the same questions. Sometimes,each answer settles in your heart to it’s settled in clarity.

Catholic doctrine is to be found in the Church documents, not priests. Yes, they are trained and formed, and may have sufficient knowledge about doctrines, but it depends on their seminary formation and personality too. That is why we see many priests which are wanting today in fidelity to the Church’s doctrines and liturgy, which is not at all surprising, after all they are humans too.

Get your advice from them but they are not everything, and one has to be discerning regarding them, from one individual priest to another.

For many things, you’ll do well to consult church documents in addition to consulting priests. Church teaching is reliable. But opinions vary even among priests.
