Is this picture a part of the bible or bible illustration u can see Medjugorje st James chapel in the back ground and cross mountain which aren’t in the bible but I’m being persuaded that the story of this is part of the bible and that the back ground was added

People did pray in the Bible, but, they did not dress like Europeans in a much later century.

I note that the original painting, as portrayed in the Wikipedia article on it, did NOT have the mountain in the background, and while it did have a chapel, it did NOT have the chapel shown in the picture. The original painting was set in France, nowhere near Medjugorje.

It looks like some later artist has “re-imagined” or “re-booted” the original painting by adding elements from Medjugorje to it. This would be called a “derivative work”.

The pictures included inside a Bible are NOT a part of the Bible itself. I doubt that any drawings or paintings, created at that time, for inclusion in a book, would survive the just-under2000 years it would have to have survived.

The Bible itself is private revelation…which ended with the longest-surfing apostle, who may have lived to the age of 120. So Medjugorje, and all other apparitions, approved or not, are not a part of the Bible, and never will be!

You seem to have a very active and inquiring mind…and, seem to be searching for truth. May your search be a productive one, an interesting one, and a (relatively) short one. Don’t be afraid of asking questions here. But, for serious ones, you should be consulting your priest, and any health professional, or spiritual director he recommends!

I would query whether the Bible is private revelation, as you have said, but apart from that – ‘longest-surfing apostle’?

What a lovely picture that conjures up. After all, Peter walked on water for a bit, so maybe inspired by that they all practised and practised…….

At this point, Medjugorje is a city in Herzegovina in which certain things are alleged. They have not been proved and the safe course for a Catholic is to view it with great caution until and unless it is fully studied and approved by the Church.

There are many fakes, frauds and spiritual temptations placed before us. We are to test all things and retain what is good. For that purpose, we have the absolute authority of the Church.

Sorry…I messed up. The spell-check on this browser doesn’t help.

What I meant to say is the Bible is Public revelation which ended with the death of the last apostle. And is part of official church teaching and must be believed.

What I said for Rosie stands.

Yes, these days there are many, many fakes. And doubtful revelations. And it doesn’t help that so many of these unapproved and doubtful revelations were started by people who had gone to Medj, and come back believing!
