Don’t forget Gods infinite mercy and Love that exceeds all understanding.
You didn’t supply enough information to make it crystal clear that:I do not think I have the answer. I see something in the CCC and, as far as I am able to interpret it, it seems to point to a certain answer.
If this is not the correct answer, then I would like to understand how and where my interpretation is not ok.
Nope!I don’t know if the question fits the section; if not, a mod please move it to the apropriate section.
On with the question. I understand that missing Mass is a mortal sin. So here’s a situation:
A certain person leads a good life, believes in God, tries hard to do good things, to help others, to preach the Gospel. He reads the Bible, goes to church, goes to Confession, receives the Eucharist.
However, one particular Sunday he doesn’t feel like going to Mass. Perhaps he is just tired, perhaps he has had a nasty experience last Sunday, perhaps he decides to say some prayers instead.
The next day, he dies in an accident, without having confessed the sin of skipping Mass.
Is he going to Hell for all eternity ?
Absolutely a mass murderer can go to heaven if they confess their sins and repent. We know that God allowed a thief who reviled and insulted Jesus to go to heaven.Personally, I go for what Jesus said about judging others. I also believe what PuzzleAnnie posted. So, if you are willing to say that you can miss Mass and still go to heaven how many other sins are you willing to throw out? Gosh, can a mass murder go to heaven? If so, I am not sure I want to live next door to him in heaven.
How can you say that he/she is going to hell ?How can you say that the person is not going to hell?
No one can say if someone goes to Hell or not, that is not our perogative. However, if by us not being able to say yes or no, this does not change the unfortunate fact that some people are condemned to Hell by their own choices. The judge is God who is Just and yet Merciful at the same time, yet it is His just judgements in light of their lives that condemn a person to Hell. How can you say that he/she is going to hell ?
If you cannot say that he/she is going to hell, he/she is not going to hell.
Mas was created to be happy with God.
Cheers:shrug:
This is one of the most common logical fallacies that a person can present. So you are saying that if we cannot absolutely prove that God exists (and Benidict XVI made that statement) then God cannot exist? How can you say that he/she is going to hell ?
If you cannot say that he/she is going to hell, he/she is not going to hell.
Mas was created to be happy with God.
Cheers:shrug:
Proof please?Nope!![]()
And, in light ot The Old Medic’s previous post, the objective truth, as taught by the Church, is that I might find Hitler in Heaven, provided he did a perfect act of contrition right after he took the cianide, and at the same time, my father could be in Hell for failing to attend Mass in the last day of his life…Objectively speaking, if one dies in a state of moral sin, they are eternally separated from God’s glory; they go to “hell”.
Subjectively speaking, we (humans) don’t know who falls into that category since we don’t know all the mitigating circumstances.
I do, however, feel that we have defaulted to much to the “we don’t know” part and fail to speak the objective truth that Christ gave us through His Church. It is much more charitable to tell people the objective truths so they can measure it against their own situations.
Pax Christi.
Yes, you might find your dad in heaven. I am sorry to hear that your question was not simply a made up example. And, in light ot The Old Medic’s previous post, the objective truth, as taught by the Church, is that I might find Hitler in Heaven, provided he did a perfect act of contrition right after he took the cianide, and at the same time, my father could be in Hell for failing to attend Mass in the last day of his life…
All of the sudden, this starts to sound quite… strange… to say the least.
We cannot say that anyone is in Hell. Not even Judas, Hitler and so on…No one can say if someone goes to Hell or not, that is not our perogative. However, if by us not being able to say yes or no, this does not change the unfortunate fact that some people are condemned to Hell by their own choices. The judge is God who is Just and yet Merciful at the same time, yet it is His just judgements in light of their lives that condemn a person to Hell.
God bless.
We can say with absolute certainty that those that died in a state of mortal sin go to hell.We cannot say that anyone is in Hell. Not even Judas, Hitler and so on…
cheers,![]()
I think I said that in what I said. I do not know why you quoted me and said what you said. I never stated anywhere we could say who is in hell or not.We cannot say that anyone is in Hell. Not even Judas, Hitler and so on…

Of course not. Why? Easy going to Mass isn’t like going to a gymn or having tuition for total number of hours in predetermined days.I don’t know if the question fits the section; if not, a mod please move it to the apropriate section.

Luke123, you obviously have no problem being a Catholic and teaching against the Church. I would recommend you learn your faith before trying to teach other Catholics. I even question whether you are Catholic. Going to Mass on Sundays is required of the faithful. They are HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION. What part of that is hard to grasp?Of course not. Why? Easy going to Mass isn’t like going to a gymn or having tuition for total number of hours in predetermined days.
Its not punching a card like workers do in factories! God doesn’t take a register of who’s present and who isn’t every Sunday!! And going to Mass every Sunday doesn’t make one holy if he sees it just as a utilitarian thing i.e. I go to mass God is happy and isn’t going to punish me! That’s not how Faith works. One is 24/7 a Christian not just on sundays for a couple of hours! What He looks at is a heart of a person!
What is worse going to Mass for fear of going to hell (hypocrisy) or not going but loving Him? One can feel like not going because he doesn’t like the priest, he’s ill, misses it or whatever.
Point I’m making is that God doesn’t care about church attendance the priest does (for economic reasons mostly yes the offering at the end)! What God cares is belief, love of Him. that’s it. We are living temples. God isn’t just present in churches!! He’s all around. If you see Him only in churches fine Saints see Him in everyday life and around them outside churches as well.
don’t worry about the guy. I’m sure he’s with God now if what you say about him is true.
Don’t know where you got the skipping mass is a sin from. Its not like missing gymn lessons. If you miss gymn lessons the gymn teacher is angry. If you miss mass the priest and not God is “angry”. God knows what’s inside your heart and doesn’t care about appearances! Those were pharisees who did. Your heart must be pure if your heart is the rest is as well! Sacred Heart for one reason!!!
Boy its like a protestant forum here! lol Maybe its because there’s too many around and too much proselytism from them. Damn its hard to be Catholic in a protestant or communist country!
I aint saying you don’t have to go to mass either!![]()
So people who don’t go like in this case go to hell? It says to sanctify the holy days! Going to church is one way of sanctifying them but not the only way.Luke123, you obviously have no problem being a Catholic and teaching against the Church.
