Is this pride?

I found myself sometimes very very hard to say “please” or “help me”. Because part of me think I might disturb someone’s activity or direction/purpose… well the most part of me did make me certain that this is might be why I’m being like this.

Is this a form of pride or perhaps fear? I just found out the term of “scrupulosity” after exploring this site for a while, maybe I’m being scrupulous?

Thanks.

It’s not always easy for us to take an action (or inaction) on our part and assign to it one term (to the exclusion of all others) that explains it exactly. Very often, we do things for many reasons that are somewhat interconnected.

Could it be pride? Sure. Could it be fear? Sure. Could it be a bit of both? Certainly.

We all have our weak spots. All we can do is stick close to the Lord and do our best to be better people today than we were yesterday. It’s not a quick process.

Scrupulosity is the tendency to see “sin” everywhere, even when there is no sin. If you think you might have such a tendency, you could bring it up with a priest and get some guidance on it.

Thanks for your thoughts, Joe.

I found myself afraid to say things a lot of times. Because I’ve slipped my tongue that put me in danger many times… I always curse myself stupid…

I hear that. I like to listen far more than speak. Plus my mind doesn’t ordinarily work quickly enough for me to articulate good responses on the fly. I’m much better at articulating my thoughts in writing after I have had some time to think. So I’ve often found myself in situations wanting to speak up, but not knowing what to say. And it doesn’t help matters that I have traumatic memories of those times I did say something, only to say something badly. :o

I suppose, as with most things, we get better with practice. I am more and more coming to realize the wisdom in that old cliché that we learn more from our failures than our successes. I always thought people just said that to make themselves feel better about failing. 😛 But it really is true. Pretty much the only way to be successful is to fail a bunch of times beforehand. I know this is an area I need to practice much more. That includes an openness to failing. That can be really hard. At least, it is for me.
