Is this proper motivation to avoid sin?

Ok, Here’s my question. Would appreciate any feedback…

Is it proper motivation not to sin because you don’t want to keep confessing the same nasty sin to your Priest over and over? Or, is that just a healthy byproduct of confession.

For along time, I ve fallen into a sin that can turn into a habit. This means that I need to confess it every time I go to confession. I find that if I tell myself that I don’t want to commit the sin because I am tired of confessing it over and over, it turns into motivation to avoid the sin.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Thanks…****

Makes sense to me. Whatever keeps you away from sin, go for it.

Agreed - makes perfect sense to me. Actually, I’ve been in the same situation. Along with praying through the intercession of Mary, I resolve myself not to have to confess that sin again. It has helped a lot. Whatever it takes!

It is not the perfect reason, but it is good all the same. Just like if one does not sin for fear of hell, the catechism (I would have to look up numbers) says this is better than sinning, but not as good as not sinning for love of God.

Thanks all, just trying to get a check to see if this made sense to anyone else. Kind of a weird way to look at it, but it still gets me to the place where I try to avoid the sin because I don’t want to offend God…

Sure. Methinks any motivation to avoid sin is good motivation. 👍

In a way it’s a bit like praying for the people on the “Sick list” that gets read at mass every week. I sometimes get tired of hearing the same names, week after week, month after month, and find myself asking God, “Please, would you just heal these folks so I don’t have to listen to their names again?”. Perhaps a bit flawed, but it gets me thinking about them enough to pray for them. 🤷

It is ok, but as you grow spiritually, you will know that you don’t want to commit the same sins because you love God.
