I think I’m awful at praying.
I can’t seem to focus for a very long on one thing.
Here’s an example…
I am praying the nativity decade of the joyful mysteries and the first bead I think about Mary and Joseph and Jesus
Second bead: I think of my friend who is bravely having her son out of wedlock and how proud I am of her
Third bead: I think of how wonderful my mother is
Fourth bead: I think about abortion 😦
Fifth through seventh bead: Abortion again 😦 😦
Eighth bead: My own babies and how grateful I am for them
Ninth bead: My husband, and how grateful I am for him
Tenth bead: Back to Mary and Joseph and Jesus

See? Is that what happens when you pray?

This is not an “awful” prayer. Individual prayer can be personally tailored to each of us. You are thinking about many things at once and there is nothing wrong with your style. It is just your personal way to pray things.

Sometimes. It’s not like you’re thinking about how annoying the barking dog is next door, or what you’re going to cook for dinner or about other things that are distractions. you’re thinking about things that you care about, love and want to pray for. It sounds like you’re praying from the heart.

I think that’s an absolutely beautiful way to pray. You’re looking at the mystery of Jesus’ birth, and relating it to your own life and the needs of the society we live in. That’s exactly what the Rosary is.

It’s perfectly normal to relate Jesus’ infancy to your own children, and the plight of children who never had a chance to be born (just like the Holy Innocents, who are part of the Christmas story).

Pray as you can, not as you can’t, and don’t worry about it.
