Is this really my responsibility?

Hi.

I wrote here about an issue about 6-7 weeks ago.
There is this thing at school that looks risky.
It´s probably easy to fix, and I sent a message to the school through Facebook to inform about it. It was about 6-7 weeks ago, and they replied that they were going to tell the janitors about it. This issue still hasn´t been fixed.

So my question is whether or not I should bug on them again, or go with the fact that I´ve already mentioned this and that I´m not the one having to take it from here? Is it really my responsibility to do something about this at this point?

Thanks in advance 🙂

How risky are we talking? Like, this is going to imminently kill someone, or “someone might trip”?

To be honest, I’d bug them again and include the previous email stream in your message.

If it could lead to injury or danger, could you possibly put a little loose leaf “be careful” notice on or near it? I’d mention the notice in my follow up email too.

I’m not sure what it is, but it’ll relieve you of legal liability, and hopefully relieve any spiritual weight regarding it.

But if it’s super dangerous, you might want to do something to “band-aid” solution it too, if you think you reasonably could without hurting yourself. Just be careful!

That’s a good suggestion! The principal could have a warning issued during morning or afternoon announcements too

Thanks for the suggestions!

It´s just a lamp hanging down from the ceiling, which isn´t supposed to be hanging. So from time to time I´m bugging myself thinking about what if it drops since it´s not properly secured etc.

I guess I´ll send another message on Facebook to remind them of the issue.

Update: They responded and said at the end that they´ve now reached out to the janitors about it.

Bug them. Bureaucrats can get lost in the mountain of papers that clutter their desks. Sometimes they need a gentle reminder.
