Not anti-Catholic? I think you may be fooling only yourself with that statement.
The post immediately prior is classic double-speak.
Annie B read what the bible says about salvation. Nowhere does it say it is through the Catholic Church.

The bible states that the church [singular] is the pillar of Truth. The bible teaches that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The bible teaches that Jesus built His Church upon Peter and gave Peter the ‘keys’ [a sign of the office]. The bible teaches that the Jesus prayed for unity in the Church [the believers] and that Jesus gave Peter the instruction to feed and care for His [Jesus’] flock.

That said Annie. Think of it this way. The Church was given a commission by Jesus. Instructions on the path of salvation … included was the messages listed above plus things like "Repent and be baptized in the name of “the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”. That you must be reborn or more literally “born from above”.

Jesus tells us that His Body is “real Food” and His Blood is “real Drink” and that unless you eat and drink of this “real food come down from heaven you will have no life within you”

Jesus also instructed that He did not come to change one iota of the Law but to fullfill the Law. Jesus also said that the Law can be summed up by “Loving God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind” and " Loving your neighbor as yourself".

The Church cannot teach another path to salvation … the Church can only teach wha was given to her … the final judgement of who is saved and who is not is left to God …

The Church is like the person who was given a “Map” that shows the road to take to reach a specific destination [Salvation] and who was told to follow the road and to share the map with everyone they meet along the way …

the fact that there are some who may choose another path either through ignorance of the existance of a “Map” or through a decision to ignore the “Map” does not relieve the person entrusted to share the “Map” from doing so.

The fact that some of those who chose another path actually arrive at the final destination also does not give the person entrusted to share the “Map” the right to change or modify the “Map” [think of it as copyrighted] to show the alternative routes and list them as being equal …🙂

Annie B please see how on point my original post was.
There are many, many Catholics that think the way the above poster does. They tell you on one hand only God knows who is saved and then with the other hand they claim that it is through the Catholic Church one is saved. That is why I say that Bill Clinton has nothing on the Catholics when it comes to parsing words—not AntiCatholic just an observation.
I saw your post in it’s entirety. How “on point” it was is in the eye of the beholder. I was merely asking a question on one single part of it.

Jonh 7:47 (NLT)
“I assure you, anyone who believes in me already has eternal life”🙂

I think that is an over-simplified reply. The devil believes in Jesus, too. There is more to salvation than acknowledging Christ exists.

Annie, Please consider the entire message of scripture and the Church “which is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth” …

did you read my post just a few back? The Church cannot teach a path to salvation that is contrary to what Jesus instructs …

Jesus is the “Way, the Truth and the Life” JEsus founded the Chruch and gve her a mission to "spread the Good News of Salvation and that [and only that] is what the church teaches …

The devil knows that Jesus is the Christ but he does not believe in trust in rely on Jesus for his salvation.

You teach “another” gospel the true gospel is that anyone who trusts in relies on believes in has faith in Jesus for their salvation will be saved. It is that simple.

Part of having trust and faith is acting upon that trust and faith. They are inseparable.

Jesus said that many will call upon Him as “Lord” but not all will be saved …

Jesus said the ‘gate is narrow’ …

St. Paul says he is “working our his salvation with fear and trembling” lest he “run the race in vain”

St. Paul did not have your “it is that simple” understanding …

I am not teaching another Gospel … sadly 😦 you are …

I am following the Church that Jesus founded as the “Pillar and Foundation of Truth” and like St. Paul I am “working out my salvation with fear and trembling” …

and please do not tell me that “work” has no part in our life as new creations in Christ Jesus … because - as we all know [or should] - “faith without works is dead” …

and faith [alone] is not the path to salvation …

The Catholic Church has always taught that outside the Church, there is no salvation.

In practical terms, that means that people who have never heard the Gospel may, by the proper application of natural law, come to believe in God and seek a means of salvation. It is possible some of these people may be redeemed.

For Christians who are not, and never have been, in communion with the Catholic Church, e.g. Protestants, it is possible that they too may be saved. However, as they lack most of the Sacraments, the miss the fullness of truth.

For those who leave the Catholic Church for another Christian denomination, presuming that they are not rejecting some Catholic teaching but do so out of ignorance about what the Church teaches, they too may be saved (redeemed).

Those who leave the Catholic Church for another religion (e.g. LDS), for whatever reason, place their soul in serious peril. It is a grave sin to separate oneself from the Church.

Any person who knowingly rejects or refuses to learn about Catholic teachings place their immortal soul in jeopardy.
Proof?

I have studied Catholic teaching (catechism) and history. Plus, i have a very rich personal spriitual history to draw on… :hypno: :doh2:

the Church teaches that anyone can get to Heaven, whether Catholic or not (though it is far easier to attain Heaven with the helps the Church has to offer). Even so, if one knows the Catholic Church is the true Church yet refuses to join it or at least try to join… he cannot be saved… because he is rejecting Christ. The Church is Christ on Earth…

Purgatory is for Christians who are not 100% purified of their sinfulness (they retain an attachment for sin) when they die. It is not a 2nd chance to choose Christ.

Purgatory is very biblical (See: Revelation 21 * which says that “No unclean thing will enter Heaven”, Maccabees 12:45, St. Matthew 12:32 “forgiveness in the next age”], St. Matthew 18:23: “… until the debt is paid.”, Corinthians 3;13, etc.).

Hope this helps (?). God bless.*

Jesus said he was the “Way, the Truth and the Life”

Jesus said that “no one comes to the Father excpet through Me [Jesus]”

Jesus said “I and the Father are One”

Jesus built his “Church” upon Peter and gave Peter [and ater the other Apostles the power to ‘Bind and Loose’

Jesus gave the great commission to the disciple to “go and spread the Gospel of Salvation and to baptize in the ‘name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit’”

The church did as Jesus commanded … spreading the Good News of salvation, preserving the teachings in letters and texts of Jesus’ teachings, compliling them [continualy through the ages] into an authorized collection that contituted the core beliefs of the "Christian’ faith from the days Jesus walked the earth to the present day …

The Church is not limited only to this earth. Others may think that membership in the Church occurs only while he is here on earth through baptism. No. Even those who died without being baptized for no fault of their own have a chance to become members of the Church while there in the after world, except of course those who were already in hell. The Church still plays her basic role in salvation affecting those who died but are not in heaven or in hell. In that way the statement that outside the Church there is no salvation is true.

As has been pointed out before, this thread is about explaining to a Muslim what the Catholic Church teaches, not a non-Catholic Christian’s opinions about Catholic teaching.

Really  I thought the original poster with the question
Re: Is this really what the Catholic Church teaches?
was “Annie” who is an LDS not a muslim

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
2088 The first commandment requires us to nourish and protect our faith with prudence and vigilance, and to reject everything that is opposed to it. There are various ways of sinning against faith:
Voluntary doubt about the faith disregards or refuses to hold as true what God has revealed and the Church proposes for belief. Involuntary doubt refers to hesitation in believing, difficulty in overcoming objections connected with the faith, or also anxiety aroused by its obscurity. If deliberately cultivated doubt can lead to spiritual blindness.
Code:
2089 *Incredulity* is the neglect of revealed truth or the willful refusal to assent to it. *"Heresy* is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith, or it is likewise an obstinate doubt concerning the same; *apostasy* is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; *schism* is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him."[ 11](http://www.kofc.org/publications/cis/catechism/getnote.cfm?ParNum=2089&FNoteNum=11)
These are describing the sins of separating oneself from the Church. And what happens to those who sin?
1033 We cannot be united with God unless we freely choose to love him. But we cannot love God if we sin gravely against him, against our neighbor or against ourselves: “He who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” 612 Our Lord warns us that we shall be separated from him if we fail to meet the serious needs of the poor and the little ones who are his brethren. 613 To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self- exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called “hell.”
Sounds pretty perilous to me.

No scripture should be taken out of context. I was merely sharing one that I thought was important.
