Hi! I’m a Junior in HS and LOVE being Catholic! My girlfriend lives an hour away, but we make it work and have been together for a while now. Last Wed. I met her and her youth group in another city for a movie(October Baby). Afterwards, she cam home with me and spent the night next door(my grandparents) and came to school with me the next day. I took her home, and being that it was Holy Thursday, she asked if I wanted to stay for Mass, and stay the night for all the Good Friday stuff the next day. Now I know that you should not live with your significant other before marriage, but was this okay?chastity.com/chastity-qa/dating/shacking-up/should-i-move-with-my-boyfrie Was it sinful? We didn’t do anything wrong, we just made the best of an opportunity in our relationship during this Holy Week.

I don’t think it is prudent for you to pursue a “serious” girlfriend-boyfriend relationship with someone who lives so far away that you are working out overnight arrangements to see each other.

Even though those overnight arrangements are innocent, and seem to have the approval of your parents, it seems like an awful lot of time and effort for someone who is still in high school and cannot possibly take the relationship to any “next step” in the near term.

It is too bad your parents haven’t guided you towards friendships instead of “dating” type relationships.

Is anything in the story you relay sinful? No.

Is it an area of **prudence **that you should talk to an adult such as your parents or your priest about? Yes.

No what you did was fine.

I have to respectfully disagree with Ike above. I think it is fine to pursue healthy relationships, which it appears you are in even if it is a little more difficult with your hour travel time. Even if you are young it still is a chance to learn and grow for when you are in a future relationship or even in the one you are in now. We don’t know if this woman you are currently with will eventally be called to be your Wife and you her Husband. So there is no harm in pursuing a healthy relationship when you cannot take it to the next step as there is plenty to learn form it.

Hi,

I too have to disagree with 1ke. If you were driving one hour to see a girlfriend that is trying to lead you to do things that are sinful, or that is trying to get you away from the church, I’d say it might not be the best relationship and that you should definitely speak with an adult or priesy as 1ke advises. But you are so blessed to have a girlfriend that is on the same page as you in regards to God and the church. If an hour drive is the only downfall of the relationship, then you’ve got it made. Oh, and no I don’t see anything of a sinful nature in your post.

I think its wonderful that you both went to the Masses on Thurs and Fri together and as long as yous didn’t do anything wrong, it sounds like a healthy relationship.

Fight for your girl, fight for your love, keep it up. I think you are a serious person who love to love God.
Today it is very hard to have relationships for the moves are many, the spaces wide and the temptations many.
I do think that your love has a way to go and that you both are mature enough to ride through the waves of life.
Pray and keep the Lord between you always and everyday. Never give up through trials and tribulations. Think always that there is a light at the end of every dark tunnel.
Never, but never give up on your love even if you are low and beaten and down. Once i saw that 70 % of Americans believed that divorce was caused by “not trying enough” by the couples. Try up to death.

When I see young couple like yours I get moved and thinking that the Church has a great future with you. Keep it up…

You behaved honourably.

You acknowledged your faith and shared it with her.

You did not put yourself in a ‘near occasion of sin’ with her (because she spent the night in a physically different house).

I can’t see anything wrong in anything that you did.

Whether your relationship will persist given the various external influences upon it, such as distance, school requirements, etc, only time will tell, but you’ve certainly described nothing that will cause either of you any harm or is a cause for confession.

You sound like a fantastic young man. You should consider yourself an example to others less moral. Well done! :clapping:
