As one who embraces the Tridentine Mass I agree that those that bolted from Rome are schismatic but you’ll never hear them say so.The most troublesome aspect I’ve found is it’s relentless animosity toward what it perjoratively refers to as the “Novus Ordo” Mass, i.e., the vernacular Mass promulgated after Vatican II. To so strongly encourage people to not attend parishes that offer this Mass and, instead, only attend a Latin Mass, to me, smacks of fanaticism.
I truly believe the Latin Mass will return; it seems to be coming back incrementally. But IT IS coming back.
This could bring about schism in a DIFFERENT way. The Novus Ordo devotees will rebel against the vernacular of Latin. There will be confusion.
We can see how so many archbishops are already postured against the return of Latin. They have a problem with it.
Latin was always used in rituals of exorcism…Latin is the language of the Church from its very beginnings for almost 2,000 years. The Church was strong and unified before the Novus Ordo; today, much divisiveness.
I attend Mass in the Novus Ordo but my heart yearns for the return of the reverential and holy tongue…Latin. It will come!
