Is this sodomy?

Is it the sin of sodomy to watch homosexual pornography and have fantasy but not doing it?
The penance for sodomy used to be very long and the penitent couldn’t receive communion after many years. If I have commited the sin of sodomy, can I receive communion after confession? Is it allowed and is it good to do so?
I really can’t think about living years without receiving the grace of the Eucharist. However I wonder if it is good to have such penance.

You can receive communion after the penance the priest gives you, which is almost always not going to take years these days, but a few minutes.
 
You do need to confess that what you watched was homosexual in nature… but no you won’t be given a multi-year penance. You can receive communion as soon as you’re absolved. This would be true even if you had committed the physical acts yourself. The Church no longer imposes multi-year penance and hasn’t for a very long time.
 
Has your Priest discussed watching pornography as a sin in itself, and having lustful thoughts also sinful?

If not, you really should have this conversation with your priest.

This is technically not correct. Today, you can receive Holy Communion after the absolution. Even if you forget your penance you’re fully absolved (though not saying penance is in itself a sin). So even if the priest says “pray the rosary every day for a month” you can go to communion immediately after confession so long as you intend to follow through with the assigned penance.

This is not correct. Communion may be received after absolution is given and before penance is carried out. Absolution is not conditional upon performing the penance.
Should you deliberately not do the penance though, it would have to be confessed at next Confession.
