If you happen to confess that you watched something very inappropriate (by which I mean something with frontal nudity) and later on in the day while your** just **flipping through channels and you see frontal nudity would the frontal nudity you saw while flipping through channels have to be something that is to be confessed next time?.Thank you very much for you time.

Well, did you just keep going or did you linger and enjoy the view, while lusting?

If you come across something lewd accidentally and quickly turn away then you’re fine. You can’t control the accident. You weren’t specifically looking for lewd material. However, if upon finding this stuff you linger to enjoy it (even if only for a moment or two) then you’ve gone from an innocent victim of circumstance to someone who is purposely indulging.

So pretty much just be honest with yourself. If you only happened to glance at some inappropriate nudity for a moment and then changed the channel or closed the web page, then you’re fine. But if you stayed with it, then that’s another story. Again, don’t over think this, just be honest with yourself.

If your intentionally watching something inappropriate then you would have to confess it. However, I wouldn’t imagine you having to confess it if you just flip by it. If you stopped to watch, then you would have to confess it.

Honestly as an answer to what all of you so far seem to be asking me, no I did’nt linger to watch it.Seriously in my mind I was like “Aw,dang it!.I just confessed myself today now I’ve got to put this on the list of things to confess” while kind of like “rolling my eyes in my mind”.(I hope this does’nt sound vulgar and I very much apologize if it does) but it was just like barely past 9 pm in my time zone (the Eastern one) when I saw this.I was really suprised by** when **this happened.

I didn’t think such things were allowed on TV in the USA, unless it’s Shindler’s List or natives in the Amazon or something like that. Maybe I’m mistaken. Anyway, accidentally seeing something you didn’t mean to see is not a sin.

You don’t have to confess seeing nudity unless you are viewing it to seek inordinate pleasure. I was an art major, at a Catholic University, and I drew nudes. It meant nothing except as an exercise in drawing the human figure. If looking at naked people is a sin then I guess the folks in the Vatican have to go to confession each time they go in the Sistine Chapel.

That is interesting phrase “when in doubt, confess it out”. We are supposed to make an examination of conscience first, and make a decision, was it an informed and conscious choice to do the sin. If a person could not make that determination due to OCD, that could be a problem. Scrupulous behavior (OCD) usually exceeds or disregards religious law. If one confesses, but doubts forgiveness after absolution, it is a lack of faith in the forgiveness or a lack of confidence of at least imperfect contrition (which means the confession was a lie). Imperfect contrition is sorrow for fear of punishment for sin.

My advice is though this: see your priest, explain to him like it is. Don`t listen us to, your priest knows better and can advice you properly.

You were flipping through channels and didn’t linger on it.

If that is truly what happened (I’m not questioning, just making a statement with an if clause), then you’re fine. There was no sin.

Most modern televisions permit you to apply parental controls, such as restricting viewing to a certain rating (say, TV-PG or below) or deleting channels from the lineup you see when surfing. This would be a good opportunity to review those controls and ask yourself if you should exclude channels or shows that might be a near occasion of sin for you.
