Ok, let me explain this situation that happened to me this weekend. I went to the Penn State football game this weekend and sat in the student section (unbelievable by the way 😃 ). I purchased the ticket for the game from a student who goes to Penn State. I got the ticket so i can sit with my friends.

Here’s where the dilemma came in. Usually when you do this, there is a 27 dollar charge extra for non students to sit in the student section. I always paid it before at previous games that i went to because they always check for student id’s. My friend said if we went in a different gate then myself, and others wouldn’t have to show an id, and hence not pay the extra 27. I decided to do that and it worked. My question is, did I do anything wrong in not giving the University the extra 27 dollars. My thought was is if the kid who sold me the ticket went to the game, then he wouldn’t have had to pay the extra cash, so then it didn’t matter if i didn’t pay it. Did i sin here or just find a loopole?

But you aren’t a student - so if the rule is non-students pay an add’l $27 - you should’ve paid it. The kid who sold you the ticketed didn’t have to pay the $27 because I assume he IS a student?

How is what you did different from my daughter buying a ticket to show where kids are 1/2 off - and then me turning around and using it? It is wrong.

Now would I lose sleep over it? I wouldn’t. But I still think it’s wrong. 🤷

My gut feeling is that you found a loophole… Venial sin?
Maybe… if it bothers you it can always be confessed

And restitution made, of course - send 'em an anonymous envelope with the $27 inside.

Let me ask you, what do you think, truly…

there are no loop holes. It doesn’t work that way. But whether it is serious or not, I think the answer is obvious.

if local authority decides to waive a rule for my benefit, for whatever reason, well, great. I don’t have to know why it was done, only that someone with apparenent authority decided.

IT was Penn State vs Ohio State. Thanks for all the replies.
It did feel wrong, I just didn’t want to be the one to say to the others who had tickets that weren’t students, ā€œhey lets go pay the extra 27 dollarsā€, when no one else thought twice about going into the other gate where you didn’t have to pay it. The problem is that I’m goin to one more game this year. Maybe i’ll find a way to pay the extra cash then.

I am on my knees begging that the only sin I have to worry about on my last day is to have have cheated a multi-million dollar University out of $27.00
